Yunlan was slowly recalling what was written in the history book about the original twins separating when Black Robe came here and Yezun stayed behind but if this was the same brother, he must be the same age as the Spirit.

"Apep, would dark energy extend his life for an unknown amount of time, and if so, would it have an effect on his mind?"

The snake slid into view from where he was resting and spoke to Yunlan privately while everyone watched as he swayed in front of his owner.

"Yes he could use it and yes, it would have a detrimental effect. He would have lost all sense of right and wrong by now, only following what he deemed as correct in his eyes as law. He will try again to kill Black Robe but he is weaker and will use whatever method ha can against him. Also, the spirit is without solid form unless he is occupying someone else, but he wouldn't have put anyone at risk by showing the illusion of his death, therefore he must have used some other kind of non-life form to trick his brother, but I couldn't guess what he plans on doing now."

"Apep, how long can the Spirit stay here in this world without a host?"

"Not long My Lord. He won't take shelter in anyone else except you or Lord Shen, so both of you will need to find him soon or be close enough for him to find you."

Apep lowered himself and curled himself around his master's arm as Yunlan gazed at the faces who were silently staring towards him, aware that he was the one they would now follow until the Spirit was safely reunited with his host.

"Could you leave us for a moment please," and he sat staring into Wei's eyes, listening until everyone had left the room and they were alone.

"When he finds out that Black Robe has tricked him, he will try to kill him again but the Spirit will be weaker because he's been separated for too long. Yezun must have used dark energy to prolong his life which has damaged his brain and I don't think the Spirit will be able to stop him."

Wei could see the worry in Yunlan's face and had guessed what was on his mind, he had no power to help. When the Spirit had left, all Wei's strength had gone with him and Yunlan was trying to think of a way of giving some back to him.

"It's too dangerous, if he saw you, he'd kill you instantly because you're a reminder of his brother and you wouldn't be able to stop him."

Wei listened, knowing that he was right and he gently placed a hand against the side of his face before he felt it being held, as Yunlan placed his on top, closing his eyes as he tilted his head to rest against it.

"I don't want to lose you again, I can't," he murmured.

Apep slipped unseen from Yunlan's arm to rest beside the window, he needed time to think and couldn't while he was trapped between two emotional humans. He was sensitive sometimes, when he didn't feel like killing the nearest person, or inflicting pain on anyone who threatened Yunlan, and he listened from a distance.
