Shen Wei and the guards felt the danger in the atmosphere when they were halfway down the stairs and all three changed into their black robes before they reached the bottom. They stepped onto a road made of cobblestone and almost immediately the stairs vanished without a trace. Black Robe drew a directional talisman on the wall, making it invisible to anyone except those in need of escape and they advanced slowly. Their choice of dress helped them to blend in with the local population who were all computer generated according to the virus occupying Kunlun's brain, and it had gone back to an age before his creation, making it impossible for him to update. Therefore he was trapped in a loop and couldn't free himself from this hollow drama which increased the growth of the virus now running rampant through his systems.
The cobbled alleyways were narrow and permanently dark, allowing the shadows to thrive and take form, causing damage to anything they touched. Some of the smaller elements were displayed as people fighting for their lives against the darkness of the shadows, and they sheltered in the brightly lit houses with their doors locked, trying to hide and block out the screeches every time another person was claimed. Black Robe and the guards understood very quickly what was happening and how much danger they were in, because they were now considered as a part of the programme and would be terminated if they couldn't be absorbed.
The sound of the guandao echoed as it hit the cobbles and sent fear into the enemy who had witnessed others perish when it struck them while the rest fled. Black Robe urgently needed to find Kunlun but wasn't sure how he would have disguised himself in this situation, but he should have realised that there was only one person he could have imitated. There was another scream from the next street. Black Robe and the guards ran to intercept the shadow as it reached to claim another victim but they froze when they saw the whip appear from nowhere and strike, cutting the shape in two with Yunlan in control, as he pulled it back. Black Robe laughed, but the guards were confused and remained standing because they knew that this was not possible.
"Kunlun, I might have guessed," and the guards relaxed when they saw how Black Robe had reacted.
"I'm sorry My Lord but he was the only person I could think of that the virus doesn't know. I'm not winning this battle, I'm losing ground every day. I don't know who or even how they sent it. It all started about three months ago and woke me up straight into a battle. I didn't even have time to contact you or anyone else outside. My communication was the first thing to fail."
It made sense now why Ouyang Zhen wanted access, he seemed to be after Kunlun, but sending him a virus would damage his programme and he would never recover ... unless he was given the original antivirus by his owner ... he had walked straight into a trap. Oh Shen Wei, why did you not see this? He asked himself, which was of no use, because he was trapped and the disc was in the old cottage, and no one could enter, which left them with one choice, fight and kill this bug.
"How many of Yunlan's skills have you managed to copy?" Black Robe asked, hoping that Kunlun had managed to master at least some of them.
"I can use the whip but not fire because it goes against my programming, I'm not able, sorry, nothing else. And I should perhaps tell you not to use dark energy here because it would strengthen the virus, which makes me think that it is partly made of dark energy and who would be able to do that? Only someone who already uses it."
