Chapter 41: Becoming a Father

I lay down beside Jessie until she falls asleep. I then sit up in bed and look down at her and chuckle when I notice her hair sticking out all over the place and her mouth wide open while she was snoring and drooling into her pillow. Despite the state she was in, I still thought that she was the most beautiful woman I had ever known.  Somehow the knowledge of her carrying my child just made that even more true. Knowing that she has her first doctor's appointment in a couple of hours, I scroll through my phone and set up my alarm.

I lean over and kiss her on her forehead and gently comb the bangs away from her eyes. I climb out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen. Since she had just gotten sick and was eating for two, I decided to make her something light to eat so she could have her energy up when she woke up from her nap. I tried to make sure that her diet was well balanced so that I could make sure that our baby was getting all the vitamins and nutrients that it needed. I was kind of excited for the doctor's appointment.

I guess a piece of me was curious about what the baby's gender was but at the same time I try to tell myself that Jessie's probably not far enough along for the doctor to be able to tell us what the gender is. I have lots of thoughts racing through my mind as I finish up preparing Jessie's food for later. In the corner of my eye I see Charlie and Vaggie walk into the kitchen hand in hand. "Hey Demetrius! Whatcha up to?"

Charlie asks enthusiastically. I look up and smile at her before turning back around to what I was doing, "oh, I was just making something for Jessie to eat later. She's been a bit under the weather lately so I'm taking care of her while she gets plenty of bed rest." Charlie and Vaggie's eyes light up, "oh my gosh!!! You guys are too cute!!!

How long have you guys been dating again?" I stop what I'm doing for a moment and place a claw up to my chin, "mmm... I think it's been a couple of weeks now? Honestly, I haven't been keeping count, at least not recently. It's just been too busy around here to really sit back and think about that stuff." Vaggie lets out a sigh, "yeah I know how you feel on that one."

I feel a buzzing sensation on my leg and hear a vibration coming from my pants pocket. I pull out the phone and notice that it's the alarm I set for Jessie's first OB-GYN appointment. I turn the alarm off and place it back in my pocket and place Jessie's food on a serving tray. "Sorry guys, I gotta run. Jessie has a doctor's appointment today so I gotta go make sure she's awake."

The two girls smile at each other and then smile back at me, "Alright, see you later!" I nod my head at them and grab the tray of food and head upstairs. I take the room key to Jessie's room out of my pocket and open the door and smile because I notice that she was so tired she slept right through her alarm because it was still ringing and vibrating incessantly. I use my foot to close the door behind me and set the tray down on a nearby table. I swiftly walk over to her nightstand with my tail swaying behind me and turn off her alarm before sitting down on the bed beside her.

I look down at her and see that she's sprawled all across the queen sized mattress. I chuckle because I could tell that she was dreaming because her tail was wagging back and forth hitting the mattress and she was barking low beneath her breath. Her ear twitched and I smile before leaning over and kissing her on the head. Her tail stops wagging and she stirs a bit before letting out a groan, "mmm.... No, five more minutes, D..." I chuckle at her and wrap my arms around her waist and kiss her on the back of her neck and down to her shoulder while purring.

She giggles and wrinkles her nose, "D! That tickles!" I laugh and purr into her neck until she flips over onto her back and squints her eyes up at me. "Hey beautiful." She smiles and nuzzles her nose across my cheek.

I purr involuntarily in response. I pull my face back and look into her eyes while brushing the hair out of her face, "I brought you something to eat before we go to the doctors." She sits up in bed wearing my Pink Floyd t-shirt and stretches her arms out over her head and yawns. I get up from the bed and walk over to the table where the tray was and pick it up and carry it back over to where she is. I sit it down on the night stand and pick up the mug of tea I made and hand it to her.

She raises her slender eyebrow up at me, "what's this?" I smile, "it's tea. I read some where that it's good for the baby. I even put honey in there just like you like it." This is enough to make her smile and she takes the cup from my hands.

"Be careful, it's hot." I saying gritting my teeth hoping that she doesn't burn herself. She carefully takes a sip from it and I relax my shoulders before placing a hand lovingly on her leg. She smiles at the warm affection and kisses me on the cheek. "You are way too good to me.

What would I ever do without you?" I look up to the ceiling and place a hand to my chin before pursing my lips, "hmmm.... Well I suppose you'd probably be roommates with Carlton..." She chuckles, "yeah, that sounds like something I would do." I smile and change the subject, "so, how are you feeling?" "Hmmm... much better actually.

But, I am kind of nervous about the appointment." I smile at her and take her hand in mine, "I'm sure everything will be fine." Admittedly however, I was probably just as nervous as she was. Maybe even more so, but I didn't want her to stress out over it so I tried to mask my insecurities. I look down at my phone and notice that the time passed by a lot quicker than I thought it did.

"Whoa, you gotta get dressed. We got to get you to that appointment before you're late. I'll ask dad if we can borrow his car and I'll drive you there." She smiles and climbs out of bed and throws on some grey sweat pants and grabs her purse before reaching for my hand, "okay let's go." I shake my head and walk over to her laughing, "sweetie.

We're not that far behind time! You still have time to brush your hair and your teeth," I say reassuringly. She nods her head and rolls her eyes annoyingly before walking into the bathroom and turning on the sink. She finishes up brushing her teeth and then combs her hair before throwing it up in a ponytail. I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her and kiss her on the cheek before talking to her in a soft and affectionate tone, "don't be mad at me, Baby.

I'm just trying to look out for you." She lets out a sigh and turns to face me before placing her hands on my chest, "I'm not mad at you, Sweetheart. I'm probably just experiencing mood swings. If I seem like I'm in a worse mood than usual for seemingly no reason, I'm sure it's all just part of the pregnancy." She takes my hand and kisses the back of it, "I'm just glad that you're here to help me through this and that I don't have to do it all alone."
