"Let go of me!" she hissed, immediately pressing herself roughly against Dylan's chest to get him to let go. "What are you doing?" She stumbled a step away from him.

As weak as her legs suddenly were, it was a wonder they didn't just give way beneath her.

"What is this?" Dylan sounded like he didn't understand what was happening or her problem. He raised his hands again and grabbed her shoulders as if she'd lost her mind or was confused and didn't know what she was talking about. "I'm almost out of my mind with worry," he said, his features hard and serious. "I'm your husband, Kaylen."

He said it so firmly as if he wanted to hammer that fact into her head. He really did come across as the concerned husband who she had wronged. And he was damn convincing. But she wasn't fooled.

On the contrary - it only made her angrier because she was sure he was only putting on this damn show because of Ryker. Dylan had always been good at two things: Firstly, convincing himself and her that everything was her fault. Second, he pretends to others that he is a wonderful husband and that their marriage is as sweet and perfect as pink candy floss. And everyone believed him.

Eve felt nauseous, dizzy, hot, and cold at the same time. She felt bitter bile and the meager breakfast rising in her throat, and for a brief moment, she fought the impulse to stagger to one side and throw up in the nearest bush.

'Pull yourself together! You've got to keep a cool head now!'

Her teeth clenched so tightly that her jaw ached. Before her damn ex could squeeze any more shit out of her like a cow with indigestion, she turned to Ryker almost frantically.

"Ray, can you please bring Liam in and help him wash up?" she faltered briefly. "Look after him? I need to... sort this out."

'He mustn't find out about this,' she signaled subliminally. She was sorry that she was now burdening Ray with the responsibility of caring for Liam. That was the last thing she usually did and wanted to do, and Ray certainly knew that. But Eve couldn't say that Liam was hurt. That would only play into Dylan's hands.
