David shut his eyes tightly and sighed when he heard Daisy's whimpers for the nth time that night. It was 9 p.m. on Saturday and he was alone at the flat because Aiden had left to spend the night with his girlfriend.
Putting his MacBook aside, he carefully lifted Daisy from her makeshift cot beside him. He stood up slowly, rubbing her back and walking around the dimly lit living room to calm her down.
"Shhh, princess," he whispered and kissed her small head. "Why are you so restless tonight? Is it because of me? Am I making you restless with my bad mood?"
He half smiled when his baby let out an adorable whine. "I'm sorry, precious." he cooed but then sighed, peeking at the parking lot through the window. "But I'm really angry and worried for Sarah." he whispered.
It seemed crazy to talk with an almost 4-month-old baby. But it eased his nerves a bit to talk about his emotions with someone though they wouldn't understand. At least she wouldn't judge him, laugh at him or tease him.
He was in a terrible mood since he had heard about Sarah's date. He was angry and jealous. Yes, he was jealous and he was shocked when he finally admitted that unfamiliar feeling when he saw Sarah leaving with that asshole two hours ago.
He had seen the fucker stealthy from his window, taking the steps two at a one, dressed smartly in black dress pants and a light blue dress shirt with sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a bouquet of roses in his hand and a silly smile on his face like a giddy school boy ready for his first date.
And maybe it was his first date. He looked like an idiot.
He had thought and was calling him every humiliating name in his mind until he saw him walking down the stairs with Sarah by his side. Her arm was linked with his elbow as they gracefully walked down the stairs.
And all thoughts had left his mind when he saw her. He only had seen her back and that was enough to take his breath away. She was dressed in a light blue dress. It had hugged her torso and had flown beautifully to her knees. Her light brown her had been pulled up into a neat updo.
For the first time, he was seeing her wearing heels other than flats or sneakers, but she was walking so gracefully with them that wearing them seemed like second nature to her.
And that was when he admitted that he was jealous when they both got into Toby's car and drove away. He had stood behind the window with clenched hands and jaw, fighting the urge to break something.
And that was 2 hours ago and he had thought about her and what was she doing every second of that two hours. What were they doing? Where were they? Was that asshole treating her well? Was he touching her inappropriately??
The last questions that he was dreading the most were what if she starts liking Toby and warming up to him? What if they return kissing passionately and going into her flat to do other stuff?
He had broken a glass when the last question had entered his mind, effectively startling Daisy which had caused a session of crying. His heart was so troubled as he was calming Daisy and cleaning the glass.
He knew she was not one of those women to have sex on the first date. Yet again he was reminded that he still knew very less about her. So maybe she would and the thought had only disturbed him more.
He had tried to distract himself with work, but that was also futile, for he couldn't concentrate even for a second. And now he was feeling guilty. Sarah had told him once that Daisy could easily feel his mood, which must have been why she cried that much that night.
"Let's go outside for some fresh air, shall we?" he asked, kissing her head again and walking out of the door, inhaling in the cool air of night.
He closed his eyes and listened to the sound of crickets, singing. The area was quiet, making a beautiful peaceful night that was taunting his jumbled inside.
