"I have ordered dinner for you so you don't have to cook." David glanced at his mother sitting on the sofa, talking and cooing at a giggling Daisy.

He was clad in a black suit and tie and a white dress shirt, ready for the Gala, and was waiting downstairs for Sarah to show up. His mother had come since morning to have lunch with his sons and their girlfriends and she was going to stay and babysit Daisy until they come back from Gala.

Aiden and Annie had left already, but David and Sarah were going later because Sarah had to go to daycare that day, not being able to take the day off.

Emma looked up, her smile so radiant and beautiful that brought a smile to David's face and peace to his heart as well.

"Oh, you didn't have to." she said. "I would have had something from the fridge."

"It's the least I can do for my mother." he said, sitting down beside her and caressing Daisy's hair affectionately.

Facing silence, he turned his head to his mother and frowned as he saw her eyes glistening with unshed tears and a huge smile growing on her face.

"Are you okay?" he asked concerned.

"Yeah," she sniffled. "It's just whenever you call me mother my heart wants to burst from so much happiness."

He felt his heart ache at hearing her words. It was all his fault. If he was not such an asshole all those years, his poor mother wouldn't have suffered all that time.

"I'm sorry." he whispered, looking at her pleadingly. "For being such an awful child."

"Shhhh," shushed Emma, placing a gentle hand on his cheek, and smiling at him. "Don't apologize again. You have suffered as well. No child should go through the life you and Aiden went through. You acted based on the bitter memories of your childhood and teenagehood, trying to protect your heart and mind."

"I'm just grateful Sarah forced me to listen." he spoke. "And I'm grateful for you to never give up on me."

"You are my baby boy." she pinched his cheek, causing him to frown playfully. "Were, are, and always will be. I will never give up on my boys."

"Thank you." he mumbled, leaning his head on her shoulder, closing his eyes, and sighing in contentment as her arm wrapped around his shoulders and she kissed his forehead multiple times.

He felt a rush of peace in his soul. After all, his mother's embrace had never failed to calm down his distress and anxiety.

The sound of heels clicking on the marble floor had him open his eyes and sit straight. Looking over his shoulder, his breath caught in his throat at the sight before him.

Walking down the stairs, careful not to trip over her feet, was Sarah. She was dressed in a black long dress. It had only one long sleeve, coming to her wrist. It was hugging her chest and its skirt was coming down to her ankle, not flaring and not too tight, showing a bit of her curves.

Her hair had been pulled up in a low bun with two strands framing her face in beautiful curls. Her makeup was beautifully done, not too heavy but elegant with shadowy eyes and red lips that had David licking his own at the thought of them molded with his own.

Her eyes were fixed on her steps as she was holding her skirt in one hand and holding the railing and her clutch in another.

She looked like a powerful businesswoman, not a soft teacher from a daycare.

And David felt so fucking proud of her. He stood up while staring at her with admiration and love.

"Go to her!" Emma whispers, nudging his side with her elbow.
