Klaus was evidently more angry at Stefan than Brooke, because he had been breaking Stefan's neck and other bones all afternoon. So, Brooke had crept out of the truck while he was distracted and headed to where she knew her friends would all be. It was the night before their school year was due to start, and as it was going to be their last, it was Senior Prank Night.
And of course, Brooke could almost guarantee that her sister would be at the head of organising the entire operation, and she was desperate to see Caroline again after the summer she had had.
Her sister's high pitched orders and complaints could have been heard even without vampire hearing. With vampire hearing, it was almost too shrill to bear.
Brooke carefully navigated the dark hallways, being wary of potential traps and pranks set up, until she could narrow down the location of her sister's voice coming from a nearby classroom.
She smiled suddenly when she heard two other familiar voices, Matt and Bonnie's. Brooke almost teared up in relief.
She had been gone for such a long time, and the very notion of being back in the school she had grown up in was making her emotional enough, but the fact that three of her best friends were on the other side of that door was unbelievable.
"No, the trip wire has to be closer to the desk or else a student will trip over it!" Bonnie was exclaiming
"Then tell Matt to pull his end tighter!" her sister argued
"Okay wait" said Matt "No one move. I'm going to re-adjust the cannon but you can't move the wire at all without it hitting me"
Sensing an elite opportunity, Brooke grinned and grabbed the door handle, and in an instant she had kicked the door open, eliciting a bang loud enough to startle all three occupants. Bonnie took a large step back, tugging the wire in her hand hard which caused the cannon in front of Matt's face to set off the confetti inside. He screamed, and so did Bonnie and Caroline, and Brooke just cackled.
She flicked the lights on, and Caroline opened her mouth to shout, but as soon as she lay eyes on her twin sister she froze.
"OH MY GOD!"
Caroline sprinted to Brooke, and the twins threw their arms around each other. They had been apart for months, but finally, after everything they were reunited, and Brooke had never been happier.
"How are you here?" her sister breathed into her shoulder
"Long story" grinned Brooke "Did you really think I wouldn't be back? Not even Klaus could keep me away from my family"
After another minute Caroline finally let go of Brooke, and allowed her to hug the other two.
"We're so glad you're back" Matt said as they embraced "Wouldn't have been senior year without you, B"
She laughed, moving to Bonnie last "I missed you so much" muttered Bonnie
