Prologue

Mystic Falls was a town of many secrets. Back in 1860 when the town was founded supernatural creatures had roamed everywhere, right under the noses of the Founder's council who sought to destroy them.

For years no one could explain the things that went bump in the night, until the vampires of the town were caught, rounded up, and burned in the town church, and the Founder's council believed that their troubles were gone.

The tales of vampires became scary stories passed down until it was nothing but a mere joke.

Only very few people knew the truth about what had happened in 1864, and that was the Founder's Council of each generation. And now one of those members was Elizabeth Forbes, police chief and mother to two daughters, Brooke and Caroline.

Brooke Forbes had grown up in Mystic Falls for her entire life, alongside her twin sister Caroline. The two blondes were everything in Mystic Falls. Beautiful, funny, popular, talented, and in charge of nearly every school, and local community event.

Brooke, the older twin, in particular, was apart of everything. She participated in every event she could, and everyone who knew her loved her.

The twins seemed like they had had the perfect lives; a mother leading the police, a hundred trophies from cheerleading events, co-captains of the team, chairs of the school events committee, 4.0 GPAs and a bright future ahead of them both.

However, that could not have been further from the truth. Their father had abandoned the twins when they were young, and consequently their mother ceased caring about them and spent all of her time at work. Because of this, Caroline and Brooke had learned to raise themselves and had to look out for each other.

Only their friends, Elena and Bonnie knew the whole truth of how bad things had gotten at home. 

And it all got worse when a cheerleading accident had landed Brooke in a hospital in New York with a spinal injury, and facing months of rehabilitation.

However, now after nine months she was finally returning home to Mystic Falls.

Little did she know though that the town she loved was not what she remembered. The presence of the Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan had brought all sorts of supernatural trouble to the town, and consequently their friends Elena and Bonnie had been dragged into it, and where they went, the Forbes twins were bound to follow.

However, if only they could have known what awaited them. A world of vampires, werewolves and witches loomed at their very doorstep, and they didn't even know.

But now that Brooke and Caroline were reunited, danger started to follow them, and without even realising it the two girls were pulled into the supernatural world, both completely unaware of wait lay ahead. Danger, fear, heartache, and tears would fill their lives, changing everything they had ever known.
