Vampirism had been a tough adjustment for Brooke and Caroline. They couldn't even go out in the sun, let alone leave their house or open a curtain. Stefan had assured them though that he would get the twins daylight rings, which would allow them to walk in the sun like him and Damon.
However, their delay in obtain these rings was boring because Matt had come to visit, but Caroline couldn't see him until she had one, and Brooke was having to watch their relationship deteriorate before her eyes.
Brooke had tried to distract herself by spending the afternoon in front of the TV binging every series on Netflix, but even that couldn't distract her from the itching, burning feeling in her throat. She was hungry for blood, but she couldn't very well go and steal a blood bag in the daylight, so she was dying to leave now.
But Stefan did finally reappear, with Bonnie in tow.
Bonnie was a witch, which was the biggest surprise Brooke had learned thus far. And apparently the real reason her Grams had died was because of Stefan and Damon, so she wasn't exactly keen to see Caroline or Brooke right now.
Brooke did understand her friend's reservations, however, that didn't make the cold look Bonnie gave her any better.
The four of them went up to the second living room, and Caroline and Brooke leaped onto the sofa in the corner, away from all sunlight. Bonnie extracted two identical rings from her pocket and presented them to the twins.
"So, we don't get to choose the rings we have to wear the rest of our lives?" asked Caroline
Bonnie narrowed her eyes "Hey, if you don't want it-"
"-No, no, they want it" interrupted Stefan, shooting the twins a reproachful look.
Brooke had no idea why, but ever since she turned she had become more irritable and it was taking all her might not to snap back at him.
"Now" Bonnie cleared her throat "Let me explain the rules. The witch who spells the ring has the power to de-spell it so if you ever do anything to hurt anyone..."
Brooke rolled her eyes "We're not gonna hurt anyone"
The witch was not convinced "You're vampires now and that means that urge to kill is a part of who you both are. The minute you let it take over, I will stop you"
Caroline scoffed "Bonnie, you're supposed to be our friend"
"I can't ignore what happened okay?" she retorted "If you want to be friends, you have to prove that the Caroline and Brooke I remember aren't gone."
She placed the rings on the windowsill under the light and opened her grimoire, which was a book of witch's spells her Grams left to her.
"Do you really think I meant to kill that guy at the carnival?" Brooke asked her "If anything I did him a favour. He was suffering and in pain so I killed him to end it."
