Brooke's new normal world was vampires, werewolves, witches, and a never ending saga of death and despair, which was why high school events like dances had become her favourite intermittent moments to enjoy, even when her sister was a neurotic control freak who oversaw it.

However, Caroline had been late to dance preparation for once in her life, so Brooke, Rebekah and Matt were revelling in the peace to try and get as much done as possible before any shouting started.

Then, when Caroline did walk into the gym she made sure to make her unhappiness clear.

"What is this?!" she barked, gesturing to the red balloons and string decorations being put up.

Matt laughed, "It's the decade dance. Remember, you made us sign up to help"

She wrinkled her nose up at the decor. "No." Caroline snatched up one of the red banners. "This. The twenties! We're doing the seventies"

Rebekah approached them "It's too flashy, people. It's supposed to be a speakeasy, not the world's fair" She then faked a smile at the newcomer. "Oh, good, you're here. We need help setting up the tables, so get to it"

Caroline folded her arms "What do you think you're doing?"

"Somebody has to be in charge" shrugged Rebekah

"Yeah, me. I'm the chair of the dance committee!" snapped Caroline "The theme of the decade dance is the 1970s"

"So you'd rather dress in tacky colours with bad hair than be a classic flapper from the jazz age. Honestly, I don't know what my brother sees in you"  retorted Rebekah.

Caroline smirked. "Well, maybe he sees a challenge. See, unlike some other people, I don't sleep with everyone I make eye contact with"

Before Rebekah could lunge for Caroline Matt intervened and stepped between them. "Maybe we can do both decades"

"No." said Rebekah "Go on, Matt, don't be a coward. You know you loved my twenties idea when I presented it to the group"

He looked down shamefully, and Caroline scowled at him. "Traitor!"

"Bell bottoms and disco? I don't know, this just seemed cooler" he replied.

Rebekah beamed, "See, it's just cooler"

"Whatever." scoffed Caroline "Have fun at your stupid dance"

She spun on her heel and stormed out of the gym, so Brooke tossed down the balloons she had been putting up and hurried out after her sister, with Matt on her heel.

"Caroline! Wait!" she called.

Caroline ignored her and made it to her car before turning around with a beam. "Impressive. I think we sold it"

"And you bought yourself a day" grinned Matt.

"Thank you. Just... keep her occupied. Be careful" said Caroline
