Ray had directed them to the smoky mountains, which weren't too far from them at the moment, so after spending a few hours sleeping in a cheap motel, Stefan, Brooke, Klaus, and an unconscious Ray made their way up to the mountains.
Klaus parked the car at the bottom of the trail they were following, and then Stefan slung Ray over his shoulder and they began to trudge upwards.
They may have been supernatural, but walking uphill on a mountain wasn't fun for anybody. Well except for maybe Klaus, who was grinning to himself the entire way. Meanwhile, Stefan was getting tired of carrying Ray, and Brooke was incredibly pissed off that she was being forced to walk through the smoky mountains in four inch knee-high boots and skinny jeans.
After two hours they had hoped the walk would be over, but it showed no sign of stopping yet.
"You ok?" Klaus asked the male vampire "Is Ray getting heavy?"
Stefan rolled his eyes "I'm fine"
Klaus chuckled "You sure about that? You know, we've been walking for quite some time now. If you need some water or a little sit-down..."
"You know, I get that we're, uh... we're stuck together, but if we could maybe just skip the chitchat, it'd be great" sighed Stefan
Klaus rolled his eyes and glanced over his other shoulder, at the blonde. "What about you, love?"
She scowled. "Maybe buy me some trainers next time. I love heels as much as the next girl, but not for hiking"
Klaus scoffed. "So much brooding. Your self-loathing is suffocating you, my friends. Both of you."
Stefan shrugged. "Maybe it's 'cause I'm a little tired of hunting werewolves. We've been at it all summer"
The hybrid grinned "Thanks to our pal Ray, we found ourselves a pack. There"
Finally, after over two hours of walking they had reached Ray's pack. In front of them was a clearing in the trees, in which was a group of tents, and some other werewolves.
The wolves smelled them immediately and all eyes turned to the newcomers, angry and alarmed. Stefan stepped forward and slung Ray off his back and onto the ground.
"Ray!" One of the women cried, rushing over to his corpse "Oh, my God. What's going on? Who are you?"
Klaus stepped forward too. "The important question is who am I. Please forgive the intrusion. My name is Klaus"
The werewolves tensed, all of them clearly terrified. "You're the hybrid"
He smirked. "You've heard of me. Fantastic"
She nodded shakily "We've heard of you. What the hell do you want?"
He chuckled. "My friends here, Brooklyn and Stefan, want nothing. I however, want something from all of you. I want to create more hybrids. An entire race of hybrids like myself." The wolves looked at each other in fear. "There's no need to worry. It's fascinating, actually... A werewolf who isn't beholden to the moon, a vampire who doesn't burn in the sun. A true hybrid" Suddenly, Ray jerked, and gasped as he woke up, his eyes darting around frantically. "Excellent timing, Ray. Very dramatic"
