Brooke Forbes had never known a home other than Mystic Falls and after spending so long locked away in a hospital in New York she could not help but beam as she crossed Wickery Bridge and blew past the sign at the edge of town.
Welcome to Mystic Falls!
The wind blew through her long blonde hair, and she immediately felt her insides warm with joy as she and her mother pulled the car round to the Forbes house driveway. On the outside of the porch a banner had been hung up, and purple streamers decorated the porch railings.
Welcome home Brooke!
The blonde climbed out of her car seat, and immediately the front door swung open, revealing her twin sister in the doorway. "YOU'RE BACK!" came a shriek from Caroline, and then in second she had sprinted down the porch and threw her arms around her sister.
Laughs echoed from the pair as they collided, and their mother smiled at them fondly.
Her two girls had been attached at the hip since the day they were born, and she loved to see that after 17 years they remained just as close now.
Of course Caroline had gone to visit Brooke lots over her recovery in New York, but it was a far cry from living together every day like they were used to.
However now after months of agonising waiting and worry, they were back together and Liz Forbes thought that all was now right with the world.
"I've missed this place so much" beamed Brooke, looking up at their beautiful white house
"It hasn't been the same without you" said her mother, carrying two of her daughter's bags up the porch steps
Her daughters hurried to get the rest and the family moved them all back inside. Liz was going to get started on a celebratory lunch for her daughter, so the twins took the bags upstairs to Brooke's room.
They were supposed to unpack them, but the first thing they did was dump them on the floor and then hop onto Brooke's bed.
"So" the older twin grinned "Go on, tell me everything I've missed. And I mean everything"
Caroline laughed. "It's been dull without you here, B, not much has really changed I guess"
Her sister raised an eyebrow "You seriously expect me to believe that? There is no way nothing has happened here in the last nine months"
"Okay maybe" said Caroline "Well the biggest news is that we got this new family in town at the start of school. The Salvatore brothers. The younger one Stefan is in our grade and he is the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen, I mean seriously."
