SUMMARY:
Y/N meets the man she replaced within the BAU.——————————
Y/N
You had completed the required 20 weeks of FBI training, and graduated top of the class. You had been out of the program for barely 10 hours before David Rossi had personally visited to inform you that you had been picked by Agent Hotchner to join the BAU.Turns out, Agent Hotchner had been keeping an eye on you for weeks now. When you met with him to discuss the work required within the BAU, he explained that you showed a lot of similar qualities to a former Agent, Dr. Spencer Reid. Like him, you were deeply knowledgeable. You had a photographic memory and could read 19,050 words per minute. You also had an IQ of 160, which seemed to deem you the mini genius of the BAU. Dr. Reid was the first genius to work with the BAU, and now, you were the second.
You heard all sorts of things about Dr. Reid, from his brief kidnapping by Tobias Hankel, to the time he talked an unsub into surrendering. You were very impressed by his history with the team, which is why you were surprised to learn that he resigned from not just the BAU, but the Bureau as well. No one ever disclosed his reason for leaving, but Agent Jareau, a close friend of Dr. Reid, once explained what had led to him resigning.
You just hoped that maybe you could be as good as Dr. Reid. He was a legend among everyone.

It was just after everyone celebrated 6 months with you on the team that a case proved very tough to solve. You and the team had most of the pieces, but where they fit together is what troubled everyone. Two pieces were missing: what did the unsub do with the blood he removed from his victims, and why was the unsub removing the victims eyelids?
You listened as Derek was talking to another man over the phone.
"Consultation." Derek mouthed to you as the other man prepared his next question.
"Have the cornea or pupils been harmed in any way?" The man asked, curious.
"No, no." Derek responded.
"It's Agent Y/L/N here. According to the M.E., a very sharp instrument was used." You spoke up.
"If he's taking care not to damage the eyes, then line of sight is probably what's important to him." The man told.
"So this guy wants them to see what he's doing. Thanks Reid." Derek ended the phone call.
"That was Dr. Reid?" You asked.
"Yep." Derek nodded. You couldn't help but blush a tiny bit. Just by hearing his voice over the phone, you couldn't deny to yourself that he sounded sexy.
WORK! FOCUS ON WORK!
You snapped out of your thoughts and listened as Derek talked to the others.
"Reid suggested that line of sight was important to the unsub." Derek exhaled.
"We should take a look at the other crime scenes." Hotch nodded.
Rossi and Emily went to check the crime scenes, coming back with some information. They told you what they had found and you immediately requested that Hotch call the local cops so you and the team could give the profile.
"I might know what he's doing with the blood." You told. After giving the team your imput, a profile had been created and the cops were ready to listen.
"We believe that this unsub is a white male in his 20s or 30s, and he thinks of himself as a painter or an artist. The placement of the victims tells us a lot about who he is." Hotch started.
"Pamela Hurd was found near a painting done by little known San Francisco artist Henry Floyd. Gary Porter was posed near a piece of graffiti art by a street artist named Cypher, who is currently wanted by the police. And the third victim, Lynn Stevens, was found near a mural painted by inner city youths. Finally, Aimee Fortner was placed near the statue of Saint Luke, patron Saint of the artist." Rossi continued.
"This is a compulsion. It's not accidental. He is obsessed with art." JJ told.
"All of the works of art are neglected, ignored, cast aside. It's how he feels about himself." Derek continued.
"We believe it's also the reason that he's evolved to removing the victims eyelids. He's forcing them to see what he sees. There's no sexual component with these murders, but that's because the blood and the use of the blood is his sexual release." Hotch looked at all the cops listening to him.
"So, wait. What- What is he doing with the blood?" A cop questioned, confused.
"Because he's so obsessed with art, we believe he's painting with it." Emily informed.
"He has a quick kill pace. More blood means more paint. The more paintings he does, the greater the chance someone will recognize his work." You told.
"We think that because of his need for acceptance, he may be trying to sell the paintings. So focus your canvassing on places that might sell this kind of fringe art." Derek finished.

GENERAL
Thanks to Spencer's consultation during the case, the team had put the final puzzle pieces together. They had their unsub's identity - Bryan Hughes. After days of investigating, the case was closed and the team returned to Quantico."We have a guest." Penelope smiled as the team exited the elevator. She gestured to a man standing in the bullpen.
He wore a black plaid shirt with gray button-up sweater. Black pants covered his lower half, with mismatched socks and converse covering his feet. A messenger bag hung off his shoulder, held tightly against his torso. Everyone on the team knew who he was. JJ and Emily immediately ran to him and gave him hugs, while Derek hung back with Hotch and Rossi, giving the man a hug once he wasn't being hugged by the ladies.
"Y/N, this is Spencer Reid. Spencer, this is Y/N Y/L/N." Penelope introduced Y/N to Spencer, who - to the surprise of everyone around them - held out his hand for Y/N to shake.
"The Agent who replaced me." He smiled.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Dr. Reid." Y/N tried to hide her excitement. She couldn't believe that she was meeting him.
"Spencer, please. Dr. Reid makes me sound and feel old." Spencer chuckled, earning surprised looks from the others.
For the next 15 minutes, the team watched as Spencer and Y/N sat at his old desk, - now her desk - and talked. He gave small details about himself, some she knew (like his eidetic memory and his IQ) and others she didn't know (how he graduated from high school at 12 years old). Once he finished, he encouraged Y/N to tell him about herself, which she happily did. She expressed her admiration for his work with the BAU and he did the same, expressing his admiration for the great work she had done so far.
"According to Penelope, everyone - even Hotch - was impressed with how well you settled into the team. It's not easy getting used to all the grim stuff you see every day." Spencer told.
"Do you miss this job? Saving people?" Y/N asked, curious.
"I can't lie and say I don't. But, I lost someone I loved and I tried to save her, but I- I wasn't quick enough. I'm shocked Hotch hasn't left this job yet." Spencer exhaled.
Y/N had heard about Hotch and the George Foyet case.
"I'm sorry about your loss, Spencer." Y/N told.
"Thanks. Even now, 6 months later, it's difficult." Spencer tried not to cry.
"I, uh, better let you get home. I'm sure you have better things to do than to talk to the woman who replaced you at your old job." Y/N chuckled.
"I don't, actually. If I wasn't here, I'd probably be at home rereading one of the many books I own." Spencer chuckled.
"Well, it's good to see you outside your apartment, kid." Derek interrupted, messing up Spencer's hair.
Y/N giggled, watching Derek and Spencer acting like brothers.
