SUMMARY:
When William Reid comes to town, hoping to reconnect with his son, Spencer's girlfriend, Y/N, isn't afraid to share her feelings.

Y/N
Your boyfriend of 6 months, Spencer, rarely talked about his dad. He could go on and on about his mom, but as soon as his dad became the topic of conversation, he went quiet, a look of disgust on his face. You didn't pry anything out of him, waiting until he was ready to tell you why he never mentioned his dad.

One day, while the team were discussing a case they had solved a few years prior, Spencer let out a deep exhale, facing you.

"When I was a child, my dad left my mom and me, admitting that he could no longer deal with her paranoid schizophrenia. Another reason why was because of a case I stayed in Vegas to investigate and solve. My mom begged him to take me with him, but he refused, leaving me to take care of my mom...alone." Spencer explained, trying to avoid crying.

"Did he stay in contact with you?" You questioned, confused.

"The only communication he had with me was a single letter he left me explaining why he couldn't be with me and my mom anymore. When I stayed in Vegas to investigate and solve a case, I saw or heard from him for the first time in 17 years." Spencer shook his head.

"I'm so sorry, Spence." You gave him a hug, unable to imagine growing up without a father.

"I've come to accept it now. It's been difficult over the years, considering my mom's condition, but I don't care. He made his choice." Spencer shrugged his shoulders.

A Year Later (A Week Into June)

You and Spencer were only 2 weeks away from your 1-year anniversary. Spencer had been planning a special date that he booked time off for. That meant if a case popped up, Hotch gave you both permission to stay behind so you wouldn't miss the date.

Standing in line at a cafe close to the FBI Academy HQ, you and Spencer put in your drink orders and paid, moving aside to wait. It was during the 3 minutes of waiting for your coffees that the door opened and closed. Spencer glanced toward the entrance long enough to immediately tense up and look away just as quickly.

"Spence, what's wrong?" You looked at him, feeling his hand squeeze yours slightly.

His jaw clenched and he avoided looking at the direction of the entry to the cafe, but his intention failed as an older voice spoke up.

"Spencer?" The man called his name and Spencer exhaled, turning around to face the older man.

"Dad." Spencer remained neutral, not wanting to waste any emotion on his dad.

"It's really good to see you. You look good. How old are you now?" He asked, curious.

"30." He responded, clearly wanting to leave.

"Wow. And who's the beautiful young lady standing next to you?" The man gestured to you.

"My girlfriend, Y/N." Spencer told.

"It's nice to meet you, Y/N. I'm William, Spencer's dad." He held his hand out. You shook his hand, trying to keep the interaction from turning sour.

Luckily for Spencer, the barista called out his name and the two drinks he ordered, giving Spencer a chance to escape.

"I'm sorry to cut this conversation short, but Spencer and I really have to get back to work." You insisted as Spencer handed your coffee to you before gently guiding you away from his dad, who went to say something, but stopped.
