SUMMARY:
Spencer makes a mistake. Y/N overheard the mistake and - in a fit of sadness and anger - goes home with Emily, JJ and Penelope. The three ladies decide to teach Spencer a valuable lesson.

——————————

Emily, JJ and Penelope had been keeping an eye on Spencer throughout the BAU's night out. Rossi and Hotch discussed some topics they both liked. The three ladies and Derek were on the dance floor. An unusual amount of women decided that they would try and win the attention of their resident genius, although their attempts failed as soon as they saw him being romantic toward his girlfriend of two years, Y/N.

Unfortunately, there was one woman who didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that Spencer wasn't available.

While Y/N popped to the bathroom, a blonde woman sauntered over to Spencer, immediately moving so her cleavage would be visible to him.

"Hello, handsome." She smiled, trying to draw his attention from his drink.

"H- Hello." He replied, unsure of what to do or say.

"Turn her away, Spence." JJ muttered loud enough for Emily and Penelope to hear.

"Don't be seduced. You've already got a girlfriend." Penelope added. The three women waited for the blonde to get the hint and leave Spencer alone, but they started to panic when she sat down in Y/N's spot, pushing the drink to the other side of the table. By this point they had moved off the dance floor and were now watching Spencer interact with the woman.

"How about we go somewhere more private?" The woman offered, standing up after a few minutes.

"Sorry, I have a girlfriend." Spencer replied, shaking his head. The woman finally gave up, leaving Spencer at his table.

Unbeknownst to Spencer, Y/N had left the bathroom and was halfway back to the table when she saw him talking to the woman. What made her heart sink was his choice of words: 'sorry, I have a girlfriend'.

She rummaged through her purse and pulled out some cash. She angril stormed over to the table, slammed the money near her drink, before storming out of the bar.

"Y/N? Y/N? What's wrong?" Spencer attempted to catch her attention, but when he saw the disappointed looks on Emily, JJ and Penelope's faces, he figured that he must've done something wrong.

Until around 11 PM, Spencer called Y/N several times, trying to contact her. Meanwhile Y/N spent part of the night at Emily's, being surrounded by Emily, JJ and Penelope.

———

Spencer knew that somehow he had messed up. What had he done to mess up, he had no idea. He rang Derek, recounting the entire situation to him. That's when Derek drove to Spencer's apartment, picked up the long-haired adult and drove him to Emily's place - having contacted Emily before leaving his apartment.

"Derek, she doesn't want to see him right now." Emily kept the door ajar so only her face could be seen, while Derek and Spencer stood outside her apartment.

"The kid just needs to apologise." Derek exhaled.

"Uh, I don't even know what I did wrong, or what I'm apologising for. Derek didn't really say much." Spencer told, shrugging his shoulders.

"Before he can apologise, we're gonna teach him a lesson. Tell him how he messed up." Emily let the two men into her apartment, watching as JJ ushered Y/N into Emily's bedroom before joining Derek, Spencer, Emily and Penelope in the living room.

"I- Is Y/N okay?" Spencer asked, glancing between the three women near him.

"She's upset, but mostly pissed." Penelope exhaled.

"Alright. Enough chit-chat." Emily cut off the chatter, crossing her arms.

"Spencer, how long have you and Y/N been together?" JJ eyed Spencer, who let out a sigh.

"2 years." He told, dropping his gaze.

"Do you ever plan to marry Y/N?" Emily asked.

"Y- Yes." Spencer nodded.

"Then you need to understand that there is a very big difference between two words - 'Sorry' and 'No'." Emily leaned forward, watching as Spencer glanced at Derek for help.

"Pay attention, Spencer. This is important." Penelope insisted, making sure Spencer's attention was all on Emily.

"You need to understand that 'sorry, I have a girlfriend' and 'no, I have a girlfriend' are two completely different sentences. One implies that if you could go off with another woman, you would. The other implies that you wouldn't ever choose to go off with another woman. Can you guess which is which?" Emily tilted her head, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.

Everyone nodded when they watched Spencer's eyes widen, clearly having figured out what he did wrong.

"To make sure you're on the right page, when you told the blonde woman 'sorry, I have a girlfriend', you effectively told the woman that if you could've gone off with her, you would've." Penelope clarified.

"You should have told the blonde woman 'no, I have a girlfriend'. That would've gotten the message across to her that you're in a steady and happy relationship that you wouldn't change." JJ explained.

"Oh, I really messed up, didn't I?" Spencer groaned.

"You did. But you can still apologise and make it up to her." Emily nodded.

Penelope, Emily, JJ and Derek watched as Spencer cautiously moved from the couch up to Emily's bedroom. Spencer's steps were heavy, as if he was being held to the floor with weights.

When Spencer reached the bedroom door, he lightly knocked, waiting a moment before he opened his mouth to speak.

"Y/N? It's Spencer. Can we talk?" Spencer let out a strained breath, slightly worried that she'd demand he go away.

Spencer mentally smiled when he watched the door knob turn, before the bedroom door opened, revealing Y/N, who had clearly been crying for a while.

"I am really sorry, Y/N. I never intended to hurt you." Spencer sat down on the bed, his gaze never leaving Y/N's.

"Why didn't you deny her advances?" Y/N turned to Spencer, more tears threatening to spill.

"I did. As soon as she offered to go somewhere private, I turned her down." Spencer insisted.

"Em, JJ and Penelope told me that the woman sat down at the table, that she sat in my spot." Y/N reminded him.

"I- I thought she was just being nice. It's not like I have the best luck with talking to women." Spencer defended himself.

"It doesn't matter, Spencer. The moment she started flirting, you should've shut her down and said no, not 'sorry, I'." Y/N glared at Spencer, who sighed in defeat.

"I know, you're right. I'm so sorry. I guess, I haven't yet fully grasped how to tell when women are flirting with me." Spencer agreed.

"It's alright, Spencer. I understand." Y/N reached out, her hand gently holding his.

"You do?" Spencer was confused.

"Yes. I overreacted." Y/N exhaled, intertwining her fingers with his.
