Pennsylvania, 20XX.

In a house that rests on a hill, a man nearing his 40's sips some coffee and sets it down looking at a family photo. The man had an average build, darker skin tone, black hair, and brown eyes dark enough to seem black.

Man: "How long has it been at this point? 14 years? Time really flies by, huh Kaiden..."

The door opens as a girl with a lighter skin tone and brown hair with green eyes walks into the living room.

Girl: "Dad, I'm home."

Man: "You have a good day, [Lisa]? No trouble with your new boyfriend I hope."

Lisa blushes at that.

Lisa: "He's not my boyfriend, he's just a friend."

Man: "That's what your mom said about me."

Lisa eyes him suspiciously, doubting her mom would ever say that.

Lisa: "Is that a joke, or are you being literal here?"

Man: "Lil of both."

Lisa: *sigh* "Shoulda known. What's for dinner?"

Man: "I'm thinking take-out, I don't feel like cooking tonight."

Lisa puts her backpack up onto a nearby holder, taking off her shoes.

Lisa: "Mom gonna be home tonight?"

Man: "Nah, she's gotta go out of town for a big meetup."

Lisa: "Oh. And she didn't even text me. Wonderful."

Lisa goes upstairs and into her room before turning on her computer and opening up Ibis Paint and putting music on her phone before she continued a kitsune drawing she was working on.

Lisa: "Dah, Duh, dum, do..."

Lisa continued to hum to the song before her phone started ringing.

Lisa: "Ma?"

She picked up the phone to "Caller Unknown". Not mom. Her face lowered.

Lisa: "Course not."

Lisa looked disappointed at her phone before just picking it up out of general curiosity.

Lisa: "Hello?"

???: "Is this Lisa Smith?"

Lisa's eyes widened as she had an 'oh shit' moment.

Lisa: "Uh, who's asking...?"

???: "...It's grandpa."

Lisa only half believed the stranger, the static noise coming from the other phone was irritatingly loud.

Lisa: "...For real?! Like Grandpa Dan?! Aren't you supposed to be long dead??"

Dan: "I got better. Don't mind this call, this was merely a test to see if you could pick up."

Lisa: "What? Where even are you right now?"

Dan: "Goodbye. Tell [Kamran] to watch his diet."

The phone was hung up...
