"Yes, dad," Lyris answered to the live hologram streaming from her fathers office, "I know what to do." Her father had been stressing over the assassin S'Keeran ever since he'd heard of their existence. He'd grown overprotective of her overnight.
Lyris couldn't help, but feel as if she was smothered by him. He was worrying about a danger that hadn't even leaped out at her yet. What was the big deal about him suddenly being so over protective of her with Starfleet searching for the S'Keeran?
"I still need you to be safe. Make sure when you go out you at least have Issac, Ms. Meelin, or even Callius beside you," Her father told her through the hologram. Lyris groaned as she stuffed a slice of pineapple into her mouth.
"Dad!!! I can take care of myself! I'm thirteen years old. I'm technically not a little girl anymore," Lyris told her father. She was sick and tired of feeling like his little girl and being protected from every little thing. Even if another human said hi, he'd usher her away from them.
The only humans he trusted were the Merlin's and any he knew in Starfleet. They could only trust the Melrin's because of Alastor Merlin giving them a place to live and a town to hide in. Her only friends were Alastor's children Issac and Adeline.
She mostly wished she could meet more people maybe even more Skylers. She only knew the senator and ambassador from Vestea who were Skylers. Yet, she always felt like she was the only one in the world.
"I can't just have you going around without someone protecting you," Her father tried to explain.
"No! You say this everytime! I'm just trying to protect! I'm tired of this," Lyris snarled as she clicked the hologram off.
She finished up her breakfast of pineapples and assortment of fruits and headed towards the door. She had a phaser on her set to stun. She could protect herself well, if this S'Keeran decided to make an appearance.
She'd have enough time to make a call to Callius if she did stun the S'Keeran. Maybe she could prove that she didn't need protecting. Prove that she wasn't some sort of child anymore.
But she had to remember that her father had lost her mother to the S'Keerans. He'd lost his wife trying to protect Lyris and couldn't save her mother. Poor Lydia Hawkins, laid to rest that day.
"Is it all for her then?" Lyris asked a picture of her father, "Was it because of her death that you've smothered me in protection from doing anything? What happened that you would never tell me? Am I'm somehow not able to gain your trust?!?"
The sting of tears began to play at her eyes. This was the worst feeling in the world. She hated how tears made her feel weak on the inside.
She opened the door with enough force that it slammed against the wall. Good. She always hated this small house.....she always had.
