Lyris winced as her corset got tighter in the back, her lungs gaping for air

Lyris winced as her corset got tighter in the back, her lungs gaping for air. She'd begun to regret thinking back in 5th grade about how nobody wore corsets anymore. That trend had grown so out of style throughout of the centuries, but apparently not on Vestrea.

Her ribs crushed by the tightness increasing around her waist. She had to hold back a gasp for air, almost crunching over. Locks of freshly curled brown hair dangled in front of her face.

Nor was it comfortable to be standing in two inch heels on top of the cushioned seat. Her maiden's fingers tied in the strings of her corset. White thread curling in and out of her knuckles as she pulled one final time.

"I'm so sorry, M'lady," Victoria apologized, politely, "I understand you aren't completely used to such contraptions."

"No. I'm quite....fine," Lyris slightly fumbled on the last word.

Was she really fine or was it a lie still even now? Threaded between her perfect smiles and chuckles that would escape her grasp. Her life drugged from feeling the happiness she once had back on earth.

She felt guilty for acting like she never knew the family she'd made back on earth. The woman who would become her mother figure, the young girl would become her sisterly figure, and the boy who always seemed to amaze. The same boy who had made her feel what it was like to love and have a crush on someone.

The same one who took her on adventures around earth, stealing from shops. Someone who gave her butterflies by the simplest acts. Love. That's what had been lost ever since she left earth.

Vestrea, a planet full of beauty, could never replace that happiness. Nothing could replace those smiles, pictures, and memories that plagued her mind. Sculpted into marble that when it shattered, eventually would fracture her heart.

"You are a very lucky woman, M'lady. Not just any girl is chosen as a candidate for a bride to the prince. Only the prettiest and you certainly are one of those fine beauty queens."

Victoria complimented her as she her pull on a white fluffy dress. Threaded with greenish blue accents swirled into vines that carried red roses. Something straight out of the classic book Little Women in 6th grade they'd read.

Though she loved the book for so long, she could barely even remember a word said in the book. And Vestrea didn't exactly give you datapads to watch all the crap on it that you wanted. Otherwise she would've binged watched all the Little Women films and Lord Of The Rings.

"You're too kind," Lyris smiled.

"Let's touch your blush," Victoria spoke up, grabbing the brush, stroking upward with the light pink blush.

"Must we be this formal for Starfleet? Being dressed to the nines isn't exactly a good way to show off to the officers," Lyris questioned Victoria.

"You know just as much as I do that Skylers must keep up their image for the public."
