Days passed and still, nothing happened to Luna.

At first, she was still vigilant. Eventually, thoughts about the gangsters were fading away from her mind.

Each day passed with a smile on her face. She thought her life could never be more perfect than how it was at that moment, even if there were some bumps along the way.

"Luna, I will be out for three days starting tomorrow. I'm going to attend a conference so I'll leave you in charge of things here, okay? Well, it's not like I could leave things on someone else aside from you." Ms. Lucia told Luna as she handed a stack of documents into her hands.

"Whoa! I'll deal with things here alone? What if things take a turn for the worse?"

"Then, bring it up to Darius. He'll deal with it." Ms. Lucia was just nonchalant, as if meeting the president is the most casual thing to do.

"What? I have to report directly to the president?" Ms. Lucia just nodded.

"Why? Do you have problems in dealing with Darius?"

"Of course, he is the president while I'm just an intern. Why would I dare report directly to him?"

"Well, who cares if you're uncomfortable about it? You still have to do it anyway. You have no choice because no one else could take my place aside from the president. Everyone's just... not up to par."

Luna just rolled her eyes at her supervisor. Luna's facing away from her so she felt brazen enough to act like a brat.

"Don't you think you're already too old to act like that?"

Ms. Lucia looked at Luna's reflection in one of the trophies displayed on top of her shelf.

Luna's eyes widened and she excused herself quickly out of the office.

Due to her supervisor's absence, Luna had been staying late at work.

"Luna, we will be leaving now. Are you sure you don't want us to wait for you?"

Luna stopped typing to look up at her colleagues. She nodded to answer the question. "I have to submit this first thing in the morning so I'll stay longer. Be careful on your way home!"

"You, too."

Her energy was depleted after doing her task so she walked home slowly. Thankfully, her apartment was just nearby.

She was rotating her head as her right hand massaged her nape. The night was serene and she liked that the moon lighted up her path. It was late and the streets were empty.

All of a sudden, someone crept behind her and covered her mouth with a damp cloth filled with anesthetic drug.

Oomph! Luna panicked and that caused her to inhale the anesthetic substance.

The substance did not take effect immediately.

She struggled against the hold of her assailant, but the man was bigger and stronger.

This was a race against time. Any moment longer and the drug will take effect. If that happened, her attacker could do whatever he wanted to do with her.

She remembered her bag hanging on the crook of her arm. The expandable baton and the pepper spray were both inside.

She held her breath in order not to inhale more of the substance and searched around for anything she could use against her attacker.

The man was a head taller and he did not notice Luna trying to take something out of her bag.

She kept on prying the man's hand on her face with the arm that held the bag while the other was still busy searching inside. The first one she could get was the pepper spray.
