The boss, Ookida Juuzen, lived all his life in the mafia world. He met big menacing men who were cold-blooded killers like him, but nobody gave him chills the way Hana just did.
People around him were tortured and killed for money. Hana, on the other hand, seemed like she was doing all that to survive, but he couldn't shake this feeling at the back of his head that she relished being bathed in blood. He remembered the crazy look on her face and it gave him goosebumps. He needed to leave this place as soon as possible!
He boarded his car, stepped on the accelerator like it was the end of the world, and left the place without looking back.
Hana looked at the speeding car pass by her and started chasing it. Eventually, she ran out of energy. She stopped and just watched the car drive away.
When it was completely out of her sight, Hana's bloodlust slowly dissipated into thin air and the clarity in her eyes returned. The superpower that she somehow had when she was pumped with adrenaline vanished along with it and she felt her strength seeping out of her limbs.
She closed her eyes. The familiar whiff of the ocean reached her nose but she hardly cared about that. She's tired.
Finally, I can rest.
She lost her consciousness. She was going to hit the ground, but not before a pair of arms caught her.
Zeno's POV starting from a year ago...
Damn, she's beautiful.
Zeno was looking at the masked woman jumping on the stage. She was dancing along to one of his favorite songs and he watched as she effortlessly mesmerized the crowd.
Look at her go. She's not even showing her entire face but the crowd looks like they're bewitched by her magic- and that includes me.
He chuckled at the thought.
A few months back, she caught his attention at the pizza place in Astriamar and he repeatedly went back to that shop so he could get to know her. Unfortunately, she never returned to that place. He wanted to look for her but he had more pressing issues to take care of, so he decided to postpone the search until his issues were resolved.
And here she was, showing up in a place he least expected her to be, wearing a style he did not expect her to have.
He attempted to have a conversation with her earlier but she kept shutting him down. He was not oblivious to her attempts to get away from him, but he loved seeing her glare.
That's right, love. Eyes on me.
After the competition, he planned to introduce himself to her and initiate a small talk, but the staff led her out of the place faster than he anticipated. One moment she was standing at one side, the next she was gone. When he noticed the organizers running around, he immediately felt something was wrong.
He approached them to find out what happened.
He ran to the place where she said she'd wait but he did not see anyone.
Think. Where could she be?
Upon remembering one of the storage areas in that abandoned place, he immediately ran to check if she was there. He was silently hoping his guess was right.
His hope intensified when he noticed Audrey leaving the place. He saw her back strutting like she owned the world, but she did not notice him.
He discreetly ran to the gate and twisted the latch to open it. He pushed the steel gate and there she was, about to open it as well.
"Hana! I've been looking all over the place for you!"
The woman just stared at him with her wide eyes.
"Are you alright?"
He inspected her from head to toe and noticed that her wrists had red marks. He immediately took her arm to inspect it further.
"I saw Audrey walking out of here. Did she do this?"
Hana took her hand back forcefully.
He was surprised.
"Yes, she did. Could you please refrain from touching me casually? You're practically a stranger to me."
"Oh, sorry about that."
"By the way, I tied up two guys over there. They were drugged so you better bring a doctor here or else, they'll hump anyone they'll see along the road."
Zeno's jaw dropped. He came in a rush to save her from whatever predicament Audrey put her into but when he arrived, she was already free and she even tied them up!
Who the hell is this woman?
He did not give him a chance to act as her superhero.
"Okay, I'll escort you out first."
Zeno led her out of the maze while texting the organizers to deal with Audrey's mess.
Audrey's getting annoying. I'll get rid of her later.
Their journey together was silent.
He wanted to talk to her but with the way she acted toward him, it seemed impossible for her to warm up to him. Hana may have been drugged and tied down, but her mask was still pasted on her face.
He badly wanted to see her face again but it was as if her mask was glued to her face. No matter how strong the night breeze was, it never budged.
The journey was supposed to be long but Hana walked quickly. Their came to an end and Zeno did not get to see her face.
He led Hana towards a bustling shopping area. All kinds of stalls were gathered in the place and even though it was already late, there were still a lot of open shops, selling street foods for those who were craving a late-night snack.
"Hana, before we part ways, I'd like to apologize for what Audrey did to you. It was a close call. Don't worry. She won't be able to do such things in the future."
Hana's calm demeanor belied what she was feeling. She blankly stared at Zeno's eyes which made the guy uncomfortable.
"Exactly, she won't... because I won't be coming back here in the future."
He was surprised to hear her words. He must admit he was slightly interested in her and he wanted to know her more. She was a refreshing sight among the girls he met before.
He couldn't stop himself from asking. "Why?"
He wanted to know what he did wrong.
"I hate being dragged into something unplanned. I also hate being under the scrutinizing gaze of a crowd. Most of all, I hate being forced to do something I don't want to do. Tonight, you made me do a lot of things that I hate. Not only that, I was almost raped just because you don't know how to handle your fling. Aren't these reasons enough for me not to be back?"
Hana did not give him any chance to speak.
She walked away briskly as if she couldn't wait to get herself as far as possible from him.
Zeno just looked at Hana as she moved away from him.
