THIRD PERSON'S POV
"Arre aache se haldi lagao dulhan ko, taki dulha dekhta reh jaye."
(Put the haldi properly to the bride so that the groom keep looking at her)
The ladies laughed and Saumaya who was sitting in the backyard area of the house where currently the function of haldi was going, blushed.
"Ohoo Maasi, for that Saumaya di doesn't need haldi, Jeeju already is whipped over her." Her cousin Swati teased and again laughter echoed in the house.
"Yes yes, put more haldi near the blackheads maybe they will disappear too."
The smile on Saumaya's face disappeared as an old lady who was actually from her father's relative spoke and everyone else frowned too. Adhira who noticed her sister's smile vanishing fisted her hand as if she wanted to punch the lady, which she actually wanted to. Aastha too frowned but couldn't said anything as she was an elder and from her in-laws.
"Arrey Aunty, then I guess your heart needs it more, nai?"
Adhira said with a sarcastic smile and Saumaya hissed and then looked at the lady who was glaring at her now.
"Waah, look at this girl, doesn't have any shame, talking like this with elders. This is what you taught to your children, Aastha?" The lady said with a twitched face and glared at Aastha who looked down.
Adhira was again about to say something but Saumaya held her hand and shook her head to which Adhira frowned.
"Am sorry on my daughter's behalf Bua Ji, she is a child." Adhira felt bad when her mother had to ask for sorry and currently she really wanted to punch the lady. But the lady chuckled sarcastically and jerked her head.
"Child? At her age I had my first child too and was handling my responsibilities well. But, can't even blame her now, afterall she is fatherless. If only Aakash was alive today, he would've taught her some values unlike you. Bina baap ke bache palna asaan thode h." The other people shook their head at her words at such auspicious day but didn't said anything.
(It is not easy to raise children without a father)
Aastha looked down with tears in her eyes and Adhira gritted her teeth but then she felt the hold on her hand getting loosened when the old lady stopped. She looked at Saumaya who stood up and was looking directly at the old lady- Kamini devi.
"Am sorry Bua Ji for whatever Dhiri said, but you have no right to disrespect my mother. You weren't here to see how she raised us after Papa, so you have absolutely no say in this. And its her upbringing that even after you never repayed the amount you took from Papa nine years ago, we never asked that back. Because our mother always taught us to value relations over money. So, please I would request you to respect our mother and if you can't, then Aayush can arrange your tickets back. Thank you for coming and blessing me on my wedding."
Kamini glared hardly at Saumaya and looked around getting embarassed before stomping her foot and moving inside and Saumaya moved to her mother who was looking at her only.
"Gudiya, what did you----"
"You are the best mother anyone could get, no-one can say otherwise." Saying this Saumaya hugged Aastha who with tears hugged her back. Everyone smiled and actually were glad how Saumaya made the old lady shot her mouth as she wasn't leaving any chance behind to not taunt any person here.
