"An aeroplane?!" Arlo gasps.
We are going on a plane? What? How?
"How?'' I speak my mind. "We aren't allowed, and we especially aren't allowed because none of us know any soldiers from The Intelligent!" I say.
"Keep your voices down!" Uncle Bailey snaps at us, but quietly.
We have been walking through this forest for 15 or so minutes, and I was wrong about this place. So so wrong. From the view from my bedroom window, the trees look green, and it looks like there's so much beautiful nature on the forest floor. But there's not. It's like the rest of my area, it's dull, and rancid. I have seen 3 different dead animals, there are no flowers, no ponds with frogs and fish in. None of it. And I constantly feel like we are being watched, or followed, or both. This forest is making me feel trapped. When I know I can run out of it any second. I can still hear the gunshots that are being shot into peoples skulls. Maybe this is lucky, that we are leaving for a bit.
"This isn't anything to do with The Intelligent, so keep it down before they come looking for the lot of us! I'm not getting on the plane with you, but you will be with other people and you will be safe." Uncle Bailey explains.
I am completely lost for words. Just an hour ago, I was arriving home from getting food to last us for the next two weeks. Now I'm walking through this chilling forest where I feel like someone is going to shoot a bullet through my head at any minute. I grip onto Arlo's arm more, wanting more protection than I ever have from him. If I'm honest, I panic the more we walk, because we don't know where we are going, we don't know who we are going with and what it will be like.
"Why can't you come?" Arlo says.
"I just can't, I have things to handle here in the UK, while you two will be having a fun time away for a while." Uncle Bailey sounds panicked, but tries to hide the fact he might be panicking over sending his only family left away.
"A while? How long is a while?" Arlo says what i was thinking.
Uncle Bailey stops in his tracks, looks at the floor, and turns around to us.
"I understand that you two are curious and want to know everything, but I can't tell you. But all I can say is that you're going on a plane with 3 other people, and you will both be okay. You have each other, you will survive." he stares at us, eyes wide, eyebrows raised, waiting for us to say something.
"Okay then..." Arlo mutters.
And then we keep walking. Only for a few minutes, because then we arrive at our destination. We exit the dirt path that was flowing through the forest, and go through to where the plane is. It's only a small one, it mostly looks like a private jet. So it can't fit many people on it. Standing outside of the plane is an older lady, 2 men, one i'm assuming is the pilot just looking at the uniform he is wearing, and a woman, who looks in her 30s or 40s. As we walk over, they are all talking quietly until they see us and stop discussing whatever it was.
"Hello Bailey." The pilot clears his throat. "Names please?" He looks at me and Arlo.
"Arlo Roberts." Arlo says.
"Olivia Roberts." I say after.
"Okay perfect, everyone is here." The pilot sighs. "Oh let me take your bags." He adds on quickly, forcing a smile at us. We hand over our backpacks and the pilot goes into the plane, im guessing to put our bags somewhere safe.
"Ok kids, you be safe now okay, you'll be back in no time, and i'll be here waiting for you." Uncle Bailey says behind us, his voice even more shaky than earlier. We both turn around to him and smile, I hug him and he kisses me on my forehead before giving Arlo a small hug. We then say goodbye to him as the other adults stare at us, which is only a little bit awkward, but oh well.
