Caught
As we sat on the beach looking at the sky, a patrol of animals came walking towards us. They stared at us and then turned into humans-?... but they still had ears and tails- they were all foxes and coyotes and wolves. One of the wolves, who had turned human, had light and dark brown hair with blue eyes, she spoke up
?: "What are you doing here?! Intruders!"
I looked at Emerald and then back at her. "I promise I want no trouble! I got stuck here with my friend! One minute we were asleep- The next we woke up here- Then we got stuck in the underwater caves and-"
?: "Likely Story! I bet you're here to try and steal the royal treasure! Well, it's not going to happen!"
"What-? No- I would never-"
Emerald barked, getting both of our attention, the brown-haired girl looked at her confused.
?: "Soul-?"
"What-?"
Emerald: "Bark."
?: "Soul- what are you doing here-?"
Emerald: "Bark."
"What's going on-? I'm so confused-"
Emerald barked a few more times and the brown-haired girl sighed, looking at me and bowing slightly.
?: "Sorry. I didn't realize Soul was with you and that she brought you here."
"Soul? -.." I question while looking at her.
?: "The wolf. You've named her Emerald, right? Not a bad name."
"Thanks..."
?: "No problem. I'm River."
"Nice to meet you River."
River: "Nice to meet you-...What's your name-?..."
"I don't... I don't have a name-... I mean- I do- but-... I don't remember it..."
River: "Well, that won't do. How about... Lyra?"
"Lyra?"
River: "It means forever kind here."
I slowly nod.
"Lyra..." I mumble. "I like it-"
River: "Then your new name is Lyra. Follow us, we'll bring you to the king and Queen's palace. You'll be staying there for now."
"But- But my home- I need to go back-"
River: "Lyra, we need help. Emerald brought you here for a reason. A threat is attacking our home- We sent her to get help. and she found you..."
"...."
River: "Once the threat is gone I promise we'll bring you back home."
"...Ok..."
River: "Thank you- Now, let's go."
They lead us to a large palace at the top of a large mountain. I followed them and Emerald as they led me into the palace and into a large room where two figures were sitting. I couldn't tell if they were human or animals since their faces were covered. But I assumed they were human since they seemed to understand English.
River: "Your majesty's... Soul found someone who she believes can help us."
Queen: "Very well, Step forward young one."
I took a few steps forward and bowed.
King: "Respectful, despite the obvious bow to royals, no one had to tell you to do so. And so, we're told you managed to survive the underwater caves. Impressive."
"Uhm- Thank you- Your Majesty-..."
Queen: "How good are you at survival?"
"I've been on my own for 3 years now so-... I suppose it's good enough?"
Queen: "Mhmm... And what about attacking and defending?"
"Well- I-I've only ever fought off mountain lions from my home-..."
The Queen thought for a moment.
Queen: "That won't be enough... Clover."
A dark brown cat stepped up and turned into another half human half animal-.
Clover: "Yes your majesty?"
Queen: "I want you to train this young girl. She needs to know how to fight if she's going to help us."
Clover: "Of course, My Queen."
