The champagne flute was thrown across the room towards Beom Seok Ki as the argument with Myung turned into a physical altercation. Ki was terminating their lengthy engagement; he had resolved not to conform to his family's expectations for his life. He was in love with an American violin prodigy.

Ki's parents began to show anger over  Ki announcing the breakup at the engagement party in front of all his father's business partners.  Myung family was furious as they took their daughter from his side and quickly left the party. A screaming Myung tried to pull away from her father to go back and confront Ki. "My its not the right time, he will be dealt with.... calm down."

The guests continued to whisper disparaging remarks to each other as Ki's parents attempted to defuse the tension. Still offering Champagne and allowing the party to continue.

"I'm sorry," Ki said, then exited the room.

Trouble and inheritance are never far from the rich and famous, as seen in Beom Seok Ki's father's business practices and control over his family. For Ki to find happiness and escape what he doesn't want in his life, tragic beginnings often ensue the moment one decides to rebel against the inherited wishes of their family.

Myung's predicament seemed unsolvable, with her parents intent on ruining the reputation of Ki's father's business group. As a pampered socialite, she harbored a deep-seated desire for vengeance. Utterly infatuated with Ki, she was determined that he would be hers alone. "Daddy, you must do something. I cannot live without Ki... You promised we'd get married," she exclaimed from the enclosed back seat of the limousine. "Myung, calm down, we will handle it," assured her father, Chairman Eun.

Ki waited at home for his parents, knowing he had to explain himself. His decision to break the engagement in a public setting was not made lightly,  it certainly did not sit well with his parents. There were connections and promises his father had made contingent on this marriage, and Ki was well aware of them

His thoughts lingered on Lisa Danforth, a violinist whose musical gift is as captivating as her presence.

His three-month business trip to England was a journey of the heart; it was there he met and fell in love with Lisa. Despite the brief time they spent together, he never confessed his feelings to her. Nevertheless, he pondered deeply over the decision to declare his love for a woman from a different culture.

There was something about the way Ki felt in her presence... she opened him up in ways no one else ever had.
