Ki waited at the reserved table in a private room for Myung. As usual, she was late and rarely arrived on time. His thoughts began to cause sweat to form on his brow; she could be quite difficult to handle when things didn't go her way.As the double doors to the dining room opened, she entered with a smile, yet something seemed off. He realized at that moment she was unaware of what was about to unfold. Ki knew this wouldn't end well.
He rose to pull out her chair, and as she sat down, she looked up at him with a smile and excitement.
"Thank you, dear," she said, placing her napkin across her lap.
Ki's voice betrayed no sign that anything was amiss. "You're welcome."
The hostess arrived to take their orders. Myung, of course, ordered champagne and whatever she desired. Ki was indifferent to whether it would soften the impact of what he was about to say.
He sat looking at the menu, he thought maybe it was best for them to have a meal before the fireworks started...
The order was placed, and she showed no body language to indicate her feelings about last night's announcement. He avoided the topic for the time being, listening as she talked about the wedding in two months. He was fully aware of the tension he had caused between both their families.
He glanced at his phone; a message of great importance appeared. "We've located her through her publicist; she will be coming to Seoul next week. Her tour has a month's break before the next leg." His assistant ended the message with "How should I proceed?"
The food arrived, and Myung noticed how attentive Ki was to his messages... "Is everything alright?" she asked.
He smiled and said "For now"
"Did you hear me about the honeymoon, "Have you finalized the flight plan?" Myung asked as she started to eat.
Ki ignored the interruption and requested everyone finish their lunch before discussing plans. A dead silence enveloped the room for 30 minutes. Once lunch had ended, Ki took a sip of champagne and lifted his head from his lap.
"My, we need to discuss what happened last night; I owe you an explanation..." Ki said with a firm look on his face.
"Last night was a fiasco; you completely melted down. I will forgive you if you stop talking about ending this relationship," Myung said firmly, expressing her disappointment in him.
"That won't happen; what I said last night, I meant it....you are not the one for me, and if you think about it, I am not the one for you. You are high maintenance, and I am not the type of man to be your servant. When you think about it, all of this has nothing to do with us, but with our fathers' will to keep social safeguards in place for a higher hierarchy. You are spoiled, and the politics of this are not a concern for you, as long as your father spoils you," Ki was a bit harsh, but he spoke the truth from his heart.
He could see Myung's heart sink. "You don't have a say; it's done. We will be married in two months. Are you sure you are ready to give up all of this? If memory serves me right, your father is quite the narcissist."
"My father and this concern are not your worries. It's over; move on and find the man you truly deserve, someone who can make you happy... it's not me!" Ki finished his drink, stood up, and left.
