CHAPTER ELEVEN

I tapped my fingers nervously against the armrest of my chair as Melissa, the witch that Elijah had recommended, looked at my foot. Contrary to my expectations, her office looked much like a regular doctor's office. Melissa, however, didn't act like a regular doctor.

At nearly a foot shorter than me, Melissa was a small woman, who looked to be in her mid forties. She was nice, if not a little eccentric, and she had a very welcoming presence. The way she spoke, however, made me feel somewhat uncomfortable.

"Mr Mikaelson didn't mention what a stunning woman you are!" Melissa said conversationally as she examined my foot, pressing down lightly on my ankle.

"Well, that doesn't really have anything to do with my injury." I forced a smile, hissing when she pressed down on a particularly tender part of my foot.

"No, of course not." Melissa smiled, "I'm just surprised, that is all. I wasn't aware that Elijah had a lady in his life."

I coughed awkwardly, "I'm not his... Lady."

Melissa let out a hum, the tone suggesting that she didn't believe me, "Of course not, dear."

"Seriously, we're not together." I argued and she raised an eyebrow at me.

"That may be so but you have been together." She said, a smile tugging at the side of her mouth.

"How could you possibly know that?"

"Well, other than the blush that stains your cheeks every time I mention him, I can sense his essence within you." She explained and my eyes widened in horror

"And by essence you mean..." I blushed as I stopped mid sentence.

Melissa chuckled, "It is nothing to be embarrassed about, my sweet child. It is a beautiful act of love that you both have engaged in."

I was about to sprint the hell out of there, injured foot be damned.

"Is there anything you can do about my foot?" I asked, desperate to get this appointment back on track.

"Mr Mikaelson's suspicions were correct," Melissa confirmed, "I can sense a curse within your flesh."

A cold shiver ran through me at her words.

"Can you do anything about it?" I asked hopefully.

Melissa hummed, "The witch who cast this was powerful but I am more powerful. The curse feels incomplete, as though the caster was in a rush."

"What would've happened if it was completed?" I asked hesitantly.

"I can't say for sure, but I can surmise that they intended for you to lose your foot entirely." Melissa explained I gaped in confusion and horror. Who on earth would wish to do that to me? "Luckily, the witch was unsuccessful."

"Can you heal my foot entirely?"

"I can remove the curse but I cannot heal it. Once the curse is removed it should start healing naturally." She said, leaning back in her chair, "Or you could speed up the healing with vampire blood, but I'll leave that up for you to decide."

"Thank you." I said, my voice hoarse with emotion.

"If you could just tilt your foot to the right..." Melissa said as she pressed both palms on my foot. Her hands radiated heat as she murmured in a language I did not understand. A flash of white engulfed the room and I jolted in my seat at the shock of it.

Melissa leaned back in her seat afterwards, a small smile on her lips.

"Is it done?"

"It is done." She confirmed, "Now remember, the curse is gone but your foot still needs to heal. The curse prevented the healing, it didn't cause the injury. Understand?"

"I understand, thank you so much for your help." I said standing to leave.

"You're very welcome," She smiled, "Tell Mr Mikaelson that I will send him the invoice later today."

I frowned in confusion, "The invoice? Elijah told me that you owed him a favour."

"I can't think of any reason why I would owe Elijah Mikaelson a favour!" She chuckled, "He informed me that he shall be footing the bill for my services."

I smiled wearily at her as I took in this new information, "There must be some mistake, Elijah wouldn't offer to pay for me. Send the invoice to me. How much do I owe you?"

"$15,000." She replied and I gulped.

"I don't have that kind of money." I said, feeling a wave of panic wash over me.

"Then I suggested you allow Mr Mikaelson to handle it." Melissa replied. With no other option, I nodded and turned to leave. "Miss Gilbert?" She called after me and I stopped in my tracks and turned to face her.

"Yes?"

"Rest assured, you will have a very healthy pregnancy." She said with a soft smile, her eyes on my stomach.

I froze as I blinked at her, "Excuse me?"

"You shall bring a very beautiful life into this world." Melissa continued as I frowned at her, my brows furrowed and my mouth gaping open.

"I'm not pregnant." I deadpanned, knowing this with utmost certainty.

"I didn't say you were" She said with a secret smile, "But you will be."

"Okay..." I said slowly, not quite knowing how to proceed, "I'm gonna go now."

"Goodbye, Miss Gilbert." Melissa called out as I hobbled out of the building, "I have no doubt we shall meet again some day."

I gave her an awkward wave through her window as she watched me get into the car. Jenna let out a startled cry, holding a hand over her heart whilst the other hand grabbed the book she had dropped.

"You startled me, Emilia!" Jenna said, "Gosh, I'm so jumpy these days."

"Sorry, Aunt Jen." I grinned at her as she threw the book onto the backseat and began driving.

"How was it?" Jenna asked, peering down at my foot.

"The doctor was a lunatic but I think she helped my foot a lot." I summarized and my aunt nodded.

"Well that's good! I can't wait to see you dance again!"

"I can't wait to dance again." I smiled as I looked out the window.

The sooner my foot healed the sooner I could dance, which was why I planned on visiting Elijah to get my hands on some vampire blood. Perhaps whilst I was there we could have a repeat on the other night. The thought of his hands on my bare skin sent an excited shiver up my spine.

If Melissa was right about me popping out a baby, then it seems that future Emilia is smart enough to get the hell away from vampires. Present Emilia, however, is currently still extremely dumb.
