CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

Elijah's eyes flashed with disappointment as he faced his mother. Esther took a step backwards whilst Finn dutifully placed himself between his siblings and his mother. Klaus scowled at my words, his jaw clenching as he looked down at the floor.

"You'd kill your own children." Elijah stated with dismay as he unbuttoned his suit jacket, preparing to fight if necessary.

"She's lying." Klaus hissed and my heart dropped, "Tell me she's lying. TELL ME!" When Esther did not answer, his face dropped and he took a step forward, his eyes void of all emotion.

"Surely there must be some mistake?" Rebekah spoke quietly from beside me, wringing her hands together.

"She put Elena's blood in the champagne to link you all together. To kill all of you, she would only have to kill one of you." I explained cautiously, aware of how sensitive this matter was, "None of you drank the champagne, right?"

"I did." Finn said whilst his siblings all shook their heads.

"Congratulations, Finn, you are now linked to yourself." I deadpanned as Kol stepped towards his elder brother.

"I always knew you were pathetic, Finn," Kol mocked, "Catering to mother's every whim like her little errand boy."

"Be quiet, Kol," Esther spoke up for the first time from behind her son, "Your brother knows virtue you cannot even imagine."

"Whatever you think of us, even considering killing your own children would be an atrocity." Elijah said darkly.

Esther narrowed her eyes, "I should have let you die a thousand years ago, it would have saved countless lives. From the other side I have been forced to watch you become monsters, to spill blood and cause immense suffering. Even you, Elijah with your claim to nobility, you're no better."

"You act all high and mighty," Klaus spat, "But do not forget that you are the one that turned us into monsters. None of us wanted this."

"And now I must undo my mistake." She said solemnly.

"Thanks to our blonde doppelgänger, you've already failed." Kol glared daggers at his mother.

"You think that I haven't got another plan?" She chuckled coldly, her eyes flickering to me, "I will not rest until I have ended your reign of terror."

"You think you can hide behind Finn?" Elijah scoffed, "We can take him down in a second."

Esther stepped around her eldest son, "I don't need to hide behind anyone, I can face you myself."

"Emilia?" Elijah said casually as he removed his jacket, folding it in half before hanging it off of the stairs rail.

"Yes?" I asked, keeping my eyes on Finn, who was slowly inching away from the group.

"I encourage you to make yourself scarce while we deal with this situation." He said, keeping his attention on his mother, "This will not be pretty."

"Very well," I agreed, watching Finn slip out of the room.

Lifting the skirt of my dress so that I didn't trip, I left the room and headed in the same direction that Finn had. I raised an eyebrow when I realised that he hadn't left the house, he had instead gone upstairs. When I finally managed to navigate my way through this maze of a house, I found Finn standing on a balcony, looking up at the night sky.

"Why did you interrupt my mother's plans?" He asked, having heard me push open the door and approach him, "Surely you do not actually care about my siblings?"
