CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

I was startled when I saw Jenna in the kitchen, her attention focused on the egg she was currently frying. She turned around with a bright smile, dropping the wooden spoon on the countertop and running over to me. She wrapped her arms around me and I melted into the warm hug. I'd talked to her over the phone at least twice a week but this was the first time I had seen her in months.

"Jenna! What are you doing here?" I asked with an excited grin as my aunt released me. She looked me over with concern before answering.

"Klaus called me last night." She admitted and I was immediately alert, "He told me you were injured so I rushed home straight away."

I smiled softly, "You didn't have to do that Jenna, I know you hate Mystic Falls nearly as much as I do."

"Making sure you were alright is more important." Jenna replied before sniffing the air, her eyes widening in horror before she rushed to the stove, "Shit! The eggs are burning!"

I grinned, "My bad, I distracted you."

"My attempt at making you breakfast was a colossal failure!" Jenna opened a window and discarded the pan in the sink, "I guess I'll have to see what else is in the fridge. It's a nice house, by the way. It belong to Klaus, right?"

"Actually it belongs to his brother, Elijah."

"Elijah?" Jenna grimaced, "Oh no, the shirt I dressed you in last night must be his! I presumed it belonged to Klaus."

"Don't worry about it, Aunt Jen!" I smiled hesitantly, "Just don't tell Klaus. My future husband can be extremely possessive. Speaking of, did you happen to see a ring anywhere? I think I lost my engagement ring."

Jenna frowned, "No, I haven't seen it. If it helps, you weren't wearing a ring when I arrived late last night."

I nodded, "Did you see Klaus last night?"

Jenna shook her head, "No, he told me the address over the phone and by the time I arrived, he was gone. You were lying on top of the blankets in bloody clothes so I changed you into something more comfortable. I hope that was okay?"

"Yes, that was absolutely fine Jenna." I told my aunt, "I'm just grateful that it was you that changed my clothes and not Klaus."

"It's not anything he hasn't seen before."

"Jenna!" My eyes widened as my cheeks turned red, "That was ages ago though."

"Do you think it will happen again?" She asked tentatively, "You are marrying him, after all."

I grimaced, "Unfortunately, I think it's inevitable. The bastard is too goddamn charming."

"What about Elijah?" She inquired and my eyes widened.

"Jenna-"

"He's who you spent the night with a couple of times, isn't he?"

"How do you know?" I sputtered and Jenna smiled softly.

"I'm your aunt, it's my job to know." She said, "And I wouldn't have let it go on if I didn't think that Elijah was a good man. That of course was before I learned that he was a vampire and Klaus' brother."

"Elijah is a good man," I confirmed quietly, "For a split second, I could actually picture our life together. But with Klaus in the picture..."

"It complicates things." Jenna finished my sentence, nodding with understanding.

"Yeah," I shrugged looking up at my aunt, "But God help me, Aunt Jen, I think I love them both. But I can never stop hating Klaus and he will never allow me to be with his brother."
