CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

I anxiously paced around the kitchen the next morning, tapping my fingers on the fabric of my jeans. Jenna eyed me from where she stood, leaning against the kitchen counter with a strong cup of coffee nestled between her hands. Sleep had eluded both of us last night and we now nervously awaited any news.

"We should have heard something by now, right?" Jenna asked as she checked her phone for the third time in one minute.

I shrugged, running a hand through my hair as I continued to pace. We had absolutely no idea what had happened last night and our minds were sleep deprived and completely frazzled. My emotions were all over the place and I desperately craved news to put me out of my misery.

"They say that no news is good news, right?" I said with a forced smile. Jenna's phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming text and I hurried over to her as she checked the message.

Jenna let out an exasperated sigh, "It's just my advisor."

I slumped against the counter next to my aunt and let out a long sigh. I needed answers because I currently had no idea who to mourn. Was it my sister, my fiancée or both? Has anyone else I know been a casualty in the events of last night?

"Screw it," I said, pulling my phone out and dialing a number.

"I've already tried calling everyone, nobody is answering." Jenna informed me but I shook my head at her.

"I'm calling someone who isn't in your contacts." I said, listening to the dial tone as I waited.

"Emilia." Elijah answered the phone and I straightened at the sound of his voice, relief flooding through me.

"Elijah, thank God!" I replied, "What on earth happened last night? Jenna and I have been waiting for word to come but we can't get a hold of anyone."

"As far as I know, everything went smoothly. Your sister should be in transition by now." Elijah answered slowly and I frowned.

"What aren't you telling me, Elijah? You should be here by now, taking me away from Mystic Falls like you promised!" I prompted but froze when I heard a strange noise on the other end of the line. It sounded like an animal growling. "Elijah, what was that noise? Where are you?"

Elijah let out a long sigh before answering, "That was Niklaus."

I froze and let out a laugh of disbelief, "That's not a very funny joke, Elijah. Klaus is meant to be dead."

A loud bark sounded from the other end of the line and my lips parted in shock as slight awe. Klaus had completed the transition and was now a werewolf as well as a vampire.

"What happened, Elijah? Where are you?" I asked sharply.

"I'm following Klaus in his wolf form. I've been clearing up after him." Elijah began reluctantly, "I couldn't kill him, Emilia, he promised to reunite me with my siblings."

"I thought he buried them at sea, that's what you told me!" I raised my voice as I paced around the kitchen, pulling at my hair furiously.

"He lied." Elijah admitted coldly, "But Emilia, this doesn't mean that our plans have to change."

"Sight problem with that plan, Elijah," I huffed, pinching the bridge of my nose, "I don't think my fiancé would appreciate me running off with another man."

I was met with a stony silence.

"What are you talking about, Emilia." Elijah gritted out after a moment.

"Whilst you and everyone else were off doing God knows what, Klaus paid me and Jenna a visit." I hissed, making eye contact with my aunt across the kitchen, her expression concerned, "He intended to use Jenna as the vampire in the ritual. I made a deal with Klaus so that he would leave her alone."
