CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

I rubbed my temple as I left the dance studio later that day. After my lessons with the children had concluded, I remained there for hours, dancing until my feet ached. It was a feeling that would never get old. I looked around the carpark, trying to find my car when I remembered that I had walked to work. I let out a groan and pulled out my phone. After dancing for hours, there was no way I was walking home.

"Hey, Nik," I greeted when the phone was answered.

"Actually, it's me." Said a female voice and I pursed my lips in annoyance.

"Rebekah, where is Klaus? I need him to give me a lift home." I said, tapping my foot on the pavement.

"My brother has more important things to do than chauffeur you around." She drawled and I sighed.

"Fine," I huffed, not having the energy to argue with her, "I'll call my aunt. Toodles."

I hung up and searched through my contacts for Jenna. It worked out better this way since I still owed my aunt and explanation for the previous night. Finding her name, I clicked on it and held the phone to my ear, listening to the dial tone.

"Hey, Emilia!" Jenna's friendly voice greeted as she picked up. I opened my mouth to answer when the phone flew out of my hand. I jolted in shock and turned to see Damon Salvatore scowling at me.

"What the hell, Damon!?" I yelled as I began searching the ground for my phone.

"I'm afraid that you've thrown a wrench in our plans, sweetie." Damon said and I scowled at him.

"Whatever it is you need, Damon, I want no part of it."

"I'm afraid it doesn't work like that." Damon said, racing forward and digging his fangs into my neck. I cried out, desperately trying to push him away as he viciously drank from my throat. I whimpered in pain, my efforts to stop him becoming weaker as a sense of dizziness overwhelmed me.

I chuckled morbidly as black spots flooded my vision. Being a vampire's dinner was an awful way to die.

***

As it turned out, I didn't die, but I was only just managing to cling to life. My head was groggy and I knew that I had lost a lot of blood. I tried to open my eyes but the weight of my eyelids was too much. I drifted off into a dreamless sleep with the realisation that just like last time, I needed someone to rescue me.

When I next woke, it was to the feeling of being cradled against someone's chest as they walked.

"She's waking up." An urgent voice said as my eyelids fluttered, trying to open.

"Does she need any more blood?" A female voice asked as I let out a whimper.

"No," The other voice answered as I drifted back to sleep, "She just needs rest."

***

"Damon Salvatore better be dead!" I raged as I ran down the stairs with renewed energy. I had woken in my room at the Mikaelson Mansion with no signs of the attack, only the memories. I was angry but I was also very confused.

"Emilia!" Klaus said as I approached all the Mikaelsons, who stood in Elijah's study, "You should be resting."

I scoffed, "I don't want sleep, I want answers. One minute I was on the phone and the next I was attacked. What happened?"

Elijah grimaced and took a step towards me, "After you betrayed your sister to save us, it seems that the Salvatore's thought that they could make a deal with us, using you as leverage."

My heart fell and I collapsed into a chair, all my energy disappearing once more. Had my sister really just used me as leverage? Again? After what happened with Mikael, she really should have known better.

"That bitch," I muttered, "What deal did you make to get me back?"

"Darling, Mikaelsons don't negotiate with terrorists." Kol said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Rebekah abducted your sister and we gave the Salvatores until midnight to return you." Klaus explained and I looked up at him with tired eyes.

"You helped rescue me? I knew you liked me." I said to Rebekah, leaning into Kol's touch.

"I was positive that Nik would stick a dagger in my chest if I didn't help." She replied matter-of-factly, "But I would have agreed anyway; tormenting Elena is my favourite pastime. Out of all of the doppelgängers, she is definitely the worst."

"Does that mean I'm the best?" I asked her with a tired grin and the blonde rolled her eyes.

"Maybe," She hummed, "But don't let it go to your head, I still don't like you."

“Has anyone called Jenna?” I said, remembering calling my aunt, “She must be worried.”

“Actually, your aunt was the one who informed Niklaus that something was wrong.” Elijah informed me, “It is safe to say that she is extremely angry with your twin sister. She was here whilst you were asleep but had to get back to the Gilbert residence to have a discussion with your errant siblings.”

“Did anyone get my phone back?” I asked and was met with silence, “Elijah, I think I am going to have to steal your phone again.”

“Again?” Kol questioned as his brother smiled in amusement.

"How are you feeling, Emilia?" Finn asked quietly and I looked up at him with a soft smile.

"Honestly? I'm just really pissed that I got my period and was kidnapped on the same day." I said, my tired state leaving me with absolutely no filter.

Klaus chuckled, "Yes, you've had a particularly bad day, haven't you, love?"

"Yeah," I muttered with a yawn, "Nik, why don't you hug me anymore? You always used to hug me. I really miss our cuddles."

His cheeks flamed red in the most adorable way at my words and his siblings shot him amused glances. Clearing his throat, he glared at them before smiling down at me. "Let's get you back to bed and then we can cuddle."

"Okay!" I yawned again as I stood up and grabbed his hand, "Can Elijah come as well? He gives really good cuddles."

Klaus looked conflicted and he made eye contact with his brother. Seconds passed and he let out a resolute sigh before finally nodding. Even in my tired state, I did not miss the looks that passed between the siblings.

I pulled Klaus up the stairs whilst Elijah trailed along behind, hands in his pockets and a thoughtful look on his face. When we reached my room, I lifted the covers and climbed into the bed. Klaus removed his shoes, leaving them in the middle of the room, and settled down next to me. I snuggled into his side as my eyes met Elijah's.

The noble original stood at the end of the bed, looking down at me with an unreadable expression. I patted the space on the other side of me and his eyes softened. Slowly, he removed his shoes and placed them neatly against the wall. Next to go was the jacket, which he hung on the door.

With one last look at his brother, he climbed in next to me and gently placed an arm around my middle. With a content smile, I closed my eyes, feeling safe between the Mikaelson brothers. As I drifted off to sleep, I heard them exchange murmured words that I couldn't distinguish.

We would deal with the aftermath in the morning but for now, I was blissfully happy.

A/N: This chapter wasn't very eventful because other than being kidnapped, Emilia didn't have much of a role in this chapter. This chapter was important though, for reasons you can probably guess!
