CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT

I brushed my blonde hair out of my eyes as I fumbled with my keys. It had been a particularly difficult shift at the dance studio since one of the children had decided to throw a complete tantrum. By the time Lauren and I managed to sort everything out, I was absolutely exhausted.

Finally managing to get the key in the lock, I opened the door and walked purposefully into the mansion. I hung my bag up on the coat hook before making my way through the hallways, annoyed that my room was so far away.

"Emilia! Come join us." A voice called and I peered into the dining room to find all five Mikaelson siblings sitting around the table. My eyes caught on the roast chicken in the center and my stomach rumbled. With a nod, I walked into the room and sat in the only empty chair, which happened to be between Kol and Rebekah.

"What's the occasion?" I smiled as I loaded food onto my plate.

"We are celebrating our success!" Kol spoke as he poured me a glass of wine, "Thanks to you, the white oak is no more."

I flushed red as I took a sip, gulping the liquid down.

"Steady, Emilia!" Klaus grinned, leaning back in his chair, "You don't have the same tolerance for alcohol as we do."

"I reckon that I could out-drink the lot of you." I said confidently, earning several chuckles from around the table.

"I love a confident woman." Kol smirked and I rolled my eyes.

"So, Rebekah," I began in between mouthfuls of food, "Burning the bridge must have been rather enjoyable, yes?"

"Yes, it was highly enjoyable." Rebekah said with a secret smile, "It was especially fun when Damon and Sage showed up.

Finn straightened at the name of his former lover.

"Did you talk to Sage?" I asked him and received a curt nod.

"Should we be concerned that Sage may attempt to stir trouble?" Elijah asked his brother.

Finn shook his head, "I don't think that she will pose a problem."

"Well then," Elijah said with a pleased look, "Perhaps we can enjoy some time without any drama."

"I wouldn't be too certain about that, Elijah." Klaus told his brother with a manic grin as he looked pointedly at me.

"Emilia, how was your day?" Elijah asked, directing his attention to me.

"It was complete chaos," I surmised as I stabbed a carrot with more force than necessary, "Children cause complete and utter mayhem and it is absolutely exhausting. Be thankful that you're all sterile."

I startled at the sound of a fork dropping onto a plate and looked towards the noise. Rebekah was scowling at me and the rest of the siblings paused their eating to exchange nervous looks.

"Well, I for one think that children are gifts." She said curtly as I sat stock still, "You should be grateful that you get to work with them."

"I love my job," I replied carefully, "But sometimes children can be a bit much and I have to vent about it."

Rebekah huffed, "Just be grateful that you get to choose whether you want to have children or not. As you so plainly put it, I'm sterile, so the choice was taken out of my hands."

My face softened, "I'm sorry, Rebekah."

"I don't want your pity." She said as she picked up her fork and began eating once more. I looked up and exchanged looks with the others. Klaus and Kol rolled their eyes and their sisters' antics whilst Finn and Elijah watched her with concern.

"If it makes you feel better," I said with a small smile, trying to lighten the conversation, "My choice was taken out of my hands as well."

Finn frowned at me, "How so?"

"Well, according to a witch I know, I am destined to conceive an extraordinary child." I began with a small grin, chuckling at their puzzled expressions, "When I had an injury that wouldn't heal, Elijah sent me to see this witch, Melissa. She healed me but also told me that I would one day be pregnant. I then bumped into her again in Chicago and she told me that it would happen soon."

Rebekah looked at me with a quizzical expression before directing her attention to Elijah, "Who is this witch? How did you find her?"

"When I suspected that Emilia's foot was unable to heal due to magic, I had one of my contacts find me a witch that specialized in curse breaking," Elijah explained with a frown, "But it seems that she must have other gifts, such as the gift of sight."

Kol shook his head adamantly, "That is a very rare talent. Those who have it claim that it is very draining to use; it makes no sense that a witch would use her sight to predict a human woman's pregnancy."

My suspicions of Melissa flared to life as the brothers frowned.

"She's probably just a nut job." I said with a nervous chuckle and they slowly nodded in agreement, however, none of them looked overly convinced, "I mean, as long as I'm sleeping with vampires, there's no chance of any unexpected pregnancies occurring!"

Rebekah pushed herself from her seat with a thoughtful expression. I could practically see her mind buzzing as her lips tilted upwards in a small smile.

"If you'll excuse me, I am going to retire to my room now," She said as she sauntered out of the room.

"Is she okay?" Finn asked with a frown and Klaus shrugged.

"The conversation probably just became a bit much for her," Elijah mused before pushing his finished plate to the side, "Now, we have important matters that must be discussed."

"Like what?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Like you."

I froze, feeling the eyes of all four males on me. I looked between them, feeling both cautious and curious. Klaus cleared his throat and leant his elbows on the table.

"It is no secret that we all have grown to... fancy you." The Hybrid began and I froze, all of a sudden feeling the need to run, "And it is no secret that you have similar feelings for us."

I gulped and their eyes tracked the movement, "You want me to choose?"

Elijah shook his head firmly, "No, Emilia, we are not asking that of you."

My eyes widened as they flickered to Klaus, "Where is this coming from? You literally daggered Elijah for being with me."

"That was when I thought that it was either me or him." Klaus explained slowly as I bit my lip, "I now realize that it could be both of us."

"We have known women in the past who prefer to give their heart to several people at once as opposed to giving it to just one person." Kol chimed in and I felt my cheeks heat.

"All we are saying," Elijah continued, "Is that it would be okay if you were one of those women."

"Good to know." I replied after a moment, avoiding eye contact as I stood, "I should probably get some rest now."

After having excused myself, I walked hastily from the dining room and didn't stop until I was safely in my bedroom. My heart was beating furiously and my eyes were wide. I paced around nervously as I replayed their words in my head over and over again.

Did they just give me permission to... do what exactly? Sleep with them all? Have a relationship with them all?

I shook my head at the complete madness of it. Surely I had misunderstood them? I gulped at the memory of Rebekah telling me that they had once shared a woman, a woman who ended up dead.

Only one thing was for certain: I was playing a very dangerous game.
