CHAPTER FORTY FOUR

The Mikaelson family had long ago decided to spend their immortal lives in luxury. They wore the finest clothes, slept in the silkiest sheets and resided in the most beautiful castles. They demanded respect from everyone they crossed paths with and those who opposed them were slain swiftly.

The Mikaelsons traveled often, which allowed them to reinvent themselves time and time again. They were parading as a noble family in 1600s France when they first came across a charming woman, who would change all of their lives.

"Is she not stunning, brother?" Kol commented, eyeing the blonde woman who danced in the middle of the ballroom, switching partners every few minutes.

Niklaus hummed in acknowledgement, his eyes fixed on the woman, who was currently dancing with Elijah.

"It's too bad that Elijah got to her first." Rebekah added, watching the woman laugh heartily at something he said, "Neither one of you will get a chance with her once he has chained her to the bed and sucked her dry."

"I'm bored," Kol huffed, crossing his arms, "How come Elijah always has all the fun?"

"There are plenty more women in this room for you to bed, Kol." Niklaus suggested.

Kol scrunched up his nose in disinterest, "They don't interest me; they look too breakable. I want her."

Klaus chuckled, "Then by all means, go get her, brother."

Kol's eyes lit up with glee before he practically skipped over to where the pair were dancing. He tapped on her shoulder and the woman pulled away from Elijah to turn around and give Kol a stunning smile. They exchanged a few words before they began to dance, leaving Elijah frowning in the middle of the ballroom.

Rebekah narrowed her eyes at Klaus, "What are you up to?"

"Elijah and Kol can fight over her all they like," He grinned, "But Tricia will end up in my bed tonight."

Rebekah raised an eyebrow, "You already know her name?"

"Yes, she told me her name last night before I shoved my cock down her throat."

Rebekah made a face of disgust, "You boys are so crude."

Niklaus rolled his eyes, "Don't be a prude, Bekah, you're not exactly the Virgin Mary."

"But I don't tell my siblings about it, you wanker." Rebekah shot back before letting out a long sigh as her eyes were drawn back to the dance floor, "Why encourage Kol to rival with Elijah?"

"Immortality can get boring," Klaus shrugged, "And the victory will taste even more sweeter knowing that she chose me over them."

"But what if she doesn't choose you?"

Klaus' eyes darkened with the challenge, "Then the game will get even more interesting."

I brushed a hand through my hair as I listened to Finn. He had been in his coffin for centuries by the time Tricia entered the lives of the Mikaelsons. Although he couldn't speak about the matter first hand, he had learnt a fair share of information from reading Elijah's journals. He recounted what he knew as we sat together on a park bench.

"From what I have read, Tricia certainly knew how to play the game." Finn began, "She was beautiful, coy and impulsive, which was their weakness then and is their weakness now."

"I'm not impulsive!" I argued, and Finn gave me a look that implied that I was extremely impulsive.

"After it began apparent that she was exchanging in sexual relations with all of my brothers, they made a game out of it. They would fight for her affections every evening. Each night, she would accompany one of my brothers to bed."

"Where does Rebekah fit into all of this?"

"She doesn't," Finn replied, "According to Elijah's journal, Rebekah only ever showed mild distaste for the woman. When my brothers' squabbling began to attract attention, Rebekah killed her to protect the family."

"What else?"

"That's all I know, I'm afraid," Finn smiled sadly, "His journal entries became infrequent and short during that time period."

I let out a long sigh, "Well, at least I know slightly more than I did yesterday."

"After what happened this morning, I have a feeling that my siblings might be a bit more forthcoming. You should ask them about Tricia. They all might have a slightly different story."

"Thanks, Finn, I swear that you're the only sane one." I commented.

Finn chuckled, "I take it as a compliment that you consider me even remotely sane. I fear that this new world I've woken up in shall change that."

I placed a comforting hand on his knee, "I'll keep you sane if you want?"

"That would be much appreciated," Finn smiled.

Finn and I made our way back to the house hand in hand. When we entered, four heads swung in our direction. They all stood in the living room, clearly in the middle of a conversation. I released my grip on Finn's hand and crossed my arms as I glowered at them. Klaus was the first to speak.

"Emilia, I am so sorry."

"You have to apologise an awful lot, don't you, Nik?" I huffed, "Are you finally going to tell me about Tricia?"

He gritted his teeth, "Tricia has nothing to do with our relationship."

"Really?" I raised my eyebrows in doubt, "Because I think that whatever happened with her is affecting the way you look at me."

"Tricia was only ever about sex, darling," Kol chimed in, "Our relationship with you is different."

I rolled my eyes, "It might have been just sex but the same principles apply. You shared her and now you're sharing me."

"It is true that we may get a little competitive..." Klaus began, "But we will learn where to draw the line."

"Emilia, we care for you deeply." Elijah added and I looked down at the carpet, "We are willing to try this because none of us are willing to lose you."

"Please, love, give us another chance?" Klaus asked with a hopeful grin.

I sighed, "We need to communicate more; if someone has a problem with anything, tell me before it's too late. And I'm not going to pressure any of you about Tricia right now because it is clear that she has traumatized the fuck out of you, however, I do expect you all to tell me your side of the story soon. I can't be left in the dark anymore."

"Very well." Elijah said with a pleased look.

Klaus and Kol both looked fairly happy with the arrangement as well but Rebekah frowned as she looked down at the floor.

"Wonderful!" Klaus clapped his hands together once, "Can I interest you in make up sex?"

I gave him an exasperated look, "Don't push your luck. You're lucky that I'm even looking at you."

A/N: This part of the story is really boring to write but unfortunately I have to write it to get to the fun part!
