CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

I looked around in awe as I walked through the threshold of the newly renovated mansion. This morning I had woken with the intent of finding my fiancé and finally making him talk to me. I had known that Klaus planned to make a home in Mystic Falls, but I had been unaware of the splendor and size of the property he had purchased.

The mansion held the atmosphere of its original era, whilst pandering to the tastes of the modern era. It spoke of old money and extravagant living. Paintings covered the wall, no doubt painted by my future husband. My breath caught in my throat when my eyes landed on one of a ballerina. Her face was covered by her arm but I knew from the blonde hair that fell down her back that it was a representation of me.

The smell of fresh paint invaded my senses as I walked past several hybrids through the grand hallway. Upon reaching the first door, I banged on it loudly. When I heard nothing inside, I opened it to discover that it was just a broom closet. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment and I turned to continue to the next door. I gasped when I crushed into a hard figure.

"The broom closet would be the last place I would hide." Klaus mused with a grin and I scowled up at him.

"You've been avoiding me." I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"No offense, sweetheart, but I've been rather busy of late." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, I heard. You should have come to me, I would be happy to help you look for your siblings."

"Yes, I'm all too aware of how happy you would be to find them." Klaus said bitterly, "But it seems that I have saved you the trouble. My siblings were reunited with me."

"What?" I asked in shock and Klaus raised an eyebrow at my apparent excitement, "When?"

"Just moments ago actually." He replied, gesturing to a room behind me, "If you'll excuse me, I must go and make sure that my hybrids haven't damaged anything whilst moving their coffins. Feel free to explore. There are a dozen bedrooms, go and pick one."

Klaus strode off and curiosity got the better of me. I wandered through the rooms, shocked at the sheer size and amount of them. When I entered the ballroom, a choked laugh escaped my throat. Of course there was a ballroom!

I made my way up the staircase and began poking my head in each of the upstairs bedrooms. I could tell from the decor which room Klaus had chosen for himself and purposely decided that my room would be the one furthest away. I paced purposely towards the room in question when I heard the sound of glass shattering, followed by a loud thud.

Eyes widening, I hurried back the way I'd come from. When I was back downstairs, I followed the sound of destruction. My breath hitched when I finally took in the scene.

"Elijah?" I whispered and the two brothers paused their fighting to look over at me. I held onto the doorframe, feeling weak at the knees. Elijah's expression softened and Klaus took advantage of it, slamming him into a chair, breaking it into pieces. "Klaus!"

"He started it, love." Klaus replied before directing his attention to his brother, "You know, you have every right to be mad at me but I kept my word. I reunited you with our family."

Elijah stood and punched several blows to his brother's face before kicking him, causing Klaus to collide with one of the coffins.

"As impressed as I am with your fighting skills, I'd appreciate it if you ceased your fighting. It accomplishes nothing!" I said, but my words fell on deaf ears as Elijah sped towards his brother. In a remarkable show of speed, Klaus opened a coffin and pulled a dagger from one of his siblings. He pinned Elijah against another coffin, holding the dagger high about his head, poised to strike. "Klaus! Stop!"

"Don't make me do this, Elijah!" He warned his brother.

"Come on, use it. I dare you" Elijah goaded him, "You'll have Kol to deal with."

My eyes fell to the open coffin in interest, glimpsing the gray figure of a man. I couldn't see him well from here but he looked fairly young so I made the assumption that it was Kol.

Klaus slowly lowered the dagger, "Mikael is dead."

"What did you say?" Elijah asked as his brother released him.

"I killed him with his own weapon." Klaus surmised in a whisper, "He's gone, Elijah, forever."

"Why do our family remain in these coffins? Finn for over 900 years, Kol for over a century."

"Because of Stefan Salvatore." Klaus replied, "He holds the one thing keeping me from freeing them. There are things that you don't know about our past, Elijah. Our mother's death, things I never wanted you to know. But I'm ready to tell you now."

"Could you tell me too?" I chirped up from behind them, having walked further into the room, "I hate being kept out of the loop."

"Of course, love, there is nothing I wouldn't tell you." He smiled warmly at me as he dipped the dagger he held in a pot before directing his attention to Elijah, "I only ask, Elijah, that you remember the oath of loyalty you once swore to me."

"What are you doing?" Elijah asked as Klaus walked over to Kol's body and slid the dagger back into his chest.

"Always and forever. I need you to stand by my side, be my brother. Help me destroy Stefan and I promise you our family will be whole again." My fiancé closed Kol's coffin before his eyes darted to me, "Emilia, love, I need to have a conversation with my brother. Would you mind getting us some tea?"

"I'm not your secretary." I huffed, crossing my arms in defiance and Elijah's eyes lit up, "Or your wife."

Klaus sighed in exasperation, "Fine, what will it cost me?"

"I'm also not a gold digger, despite what your sister likes to think." I retorted and Klaus pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.

"Then go and do literally anything else." He said and I narrowed my eyes at him, "There are some things that need to be kept between brothers."

"Very well, but I will be back soon for answers." I said, turning to leave, "Oh, and by the way, I have it on good authority that the Bennet witch is well on her way to discovering how to open that missing coffin yours. If whatever is in there is dangerous, you might want to hurry up and get it back."

How do you know that?" Klaus asked and I looked over my shoulder with a coy look.

"Believe it or not, I'm more than just a pretty toy for you to play with." My eyes met Elijah's for a moment and I gave him a small smile, "I'll be seeing you gentlemen later."

A/N: Yay! Elijah is back and the rest of the siblings will be soon to follow! Who are you looking forward to most?
