CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
"Emilia, I need your help!" Rebekah cried, bursting into my room with absolutely no warning.
I gaped at her as I stood in the center of the room wearing nothing but a towel. If she had walked in only a second later, she would have seen me fully naked. After waking up alone in bed, I had made the decision to have a shower to wash away the events for the previous day. I was now berating myself that I didn't lock my bedroom door.
"Have you ever heard of knocking?" I scowled and she rolled her eyes.
"For someone who's slept with two of my brothers, you're being rather prudish." She commented, looking down at the towel I was clutching for dear life.
"What are you doing here Rebekah?" I asked her firmly as she began to slowly circle the room.
"I live here!" She said with a cruel smile that made me want to suffocate her with a pillow.
"In. My. Room." I emphasized, my cheeks flaming red, "What are you doing in my room?"
"As I said, I need your help." She said, perching on the end of the bed.
"Why would I help you?" I asked, looking her up and down with disdain.
"Because you'll also be helping my brothers." She said and I immediately caved.
"What do you need?" I asked, sighing as I settled down next to her.
Rebekah shoved her phone in my back and I blinked at the image of my twin, "What exactly am I looking at?"
"I took this video last night whilst I was tormenting your twin. Look behind her, at the markings on the cave wall."
I squinted, taking in the white symbols that had been painted on the cave wall. They looked incredibly old and I had absolutely no idea what their significance was. Rebekah shook her phone at me to emphasize a point that I didn't get.
"I'm going to need a little more information, Rebekah." I said and she rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"The natives told the story of our family history." She explained, pointing to one of the symbols, "A native worshiping at the great white oak tree."
"Klaus said that you burnt that tree to the ground." I frowned, looking at the images with curiosity.
"We did." Rebekah gritted out, "The markings that precede it is the native calendar. There was a white oak tree 300 years after my family fled back to the Old World. There must have been a sapling, a new tree to replace the old."
My eyes flicked up to meet her concerned gaze, "That means-"
"That there is a way to kill us." Rebekah whispered, "Which is why I need your help."
"Have you told the others?"
Rebekah nodded, "You've already proved that you are on our side and regretfully, we need your help once more."
"What can I do?"
"You grew up in this town, do you know where I can find any information?" She asked and I slowly nodded.
"You should probably check the Founders archive," I said thoughtfully, "If you can't find anything there, you should speak to Mayor Lockwood. She is the head of the Preservation Society so she might know something. Failing that, I think that there are some old town records in the library."
"Wonderful!" She beamed as she stood and headed towards the door, "Get dressed and be downstairs in five minutes."
"Wait, what?" I stuttered, "Rebekah, I have work!"
