CHAPTER FIFTY ONE

In my limited experience of living with the Mikaelsons, I had quickly learnt that the siblings loved arguing. One moment, everything would be fine and the next, everyone would be snapping at each other. The Mikaelson siblings had a habit of escalating the situation to the point of bloodshed. I was very aware of this and yet, nothing could have possibly prepared me for what happened next.

"REBEKAH!" He shouted and I almost had to block my ears due to the sheer volume. It had taken him only a few seconds to switch from silent shock to audible rage.

Rebekah appeared a moment later using vampire speed. She sent her brother a withering look as she crossed her arms over her chest and asked, "What do you want?"

She had barely got the question out when Klaus lunged at her. She collided with the dining room wall and Klaus wrapped a hand around her neck, keeping her in place. Rebekah let out a choked gasp, her eyes wide as she looked at her brother.

"Klaus! Stop it!" I begged him as I watched the scene in horror. With the intention of pulling Klaus away from Rebekah, I took a step forward, only to be stopped by Elijah, who gripped my arm firmly. When I glared at him, he just shook his head in warning and looked pointedly at my stomach.

"Did you really think that I wouldn't learn of your treachery, sister?" Klaus spat, his eyes murderous.

"What the bloody hell are you talking about?" Rebekah wheezed as she wriggled in his grip.

"TRICIA IS ALIVE!" Klaus shouted and her eyes went wide before falling on me.

"You told them?" She accused me and everyone's eyes landed on me.

"I didn't tell them anything!" I snapped.

"You knew?" Kol asked, a look of betrayal flashing across his face.

"Rebekah told me the other day," I admitted, for the first time realising how much I had screwed up by keeping Rebekah's secret.

"I'll deal with you later!" Klaus warned me and I stumbled backwards in shock. He then moved his attention back to his sister, "It just so happens that Tricia is the one who attempted to kill Emilia. I don't recall Tricia having an identical twin, therefore you lied when you told us that you killed her!"

"I was doing you a favour!" Rebekah hissed, "She was destroying our family!"

"Be that as it may, Rebekah, you were not in the position to make that decision for us." Elijah said calmly from where he stood beside me, "I assume that you were the one who turned her?"

"Yes." Rebekah admitted.

"Why not just kill her!" Kol huffed, watching his sister through narrowed eyes.

"Because I loved her, you idiot!" Rebekah snapped back and silence fell over the room.

A look of shock passed over each of the brothers. Klaus furrowed his brows in confusion before a look of understanding crossed his face. Slowly, he released the grip on his sister's neck and took a step backwards, watching her intently. I let out a long sigh of relief that Rebekah's safety was no longer in jeopardy.

"I didn't know." Klaus spoke faintly to his sister.

Rebekah huffed, "Of course you didn't know! You were all too busy playing your stupid games to notice."

"Rebekah-" Elijah began softly.

"Our family is an absolute travesty!" She interrupted him, "I foolishly keep trying to save us but maybe the truth is that we are completely and utterly broken."
