CHAPTER FORTY ONE

BEFORE

I took a sip of champagne to dull my nerves as my gaze collided with a stranger. He had been watching me all evening with a desperate longing that I could have easily mistook for love at first sight. The man was absolutely beautiful and I felt completely undeserving of his attention.

I brushed a strand of brown hair behind my ear as I tore my eyes away from him. I desperately tried to focus my attention on the older man in front of me. This event was for the sponsors of my ballet school and it was vital that I impress them. Unfortunately, the stranger watching me proved to be too much of a distraction.

"If you'll excuse me, Mr Willabee, my teacher is summoning me," I lied, quickly escaping the conversation.

The moment I was alone, the man began pacing towards me with long strides. I sucked in a deep breath as our eyes locked once more. This mysterious stranger was almost too perfect in his stature and it brought many thoughts to the surface of my mind.

I had never paid much attention to men or women in a romantic or sexual manner. I was too focused on my career and it was rare that I met someone who turned my head. My heart pounded wildly in my chest as the stranger stopped before me and offered me a lazy smile.

"Hello, love, my name is Niklaus Mikaelson."

"Nik!" I squealed as he spun me around in a circle.

We had been dating for nearly two months and I spent every day since our first meeting thinking about how perfect he was. I had heard horror stories from my friends about their boyfriends and I knew that the relationship I had with Nik was something rare and special. It was almost too good to be true.

"I've got you a present, love." He grinned, placing me down on the floor of his apartment.

I blushed, "You don't need to buy me anything!"

"Of course I do!" He countered, pulling out a box, "A girl like you deserves to be treated like a princess."

He handed me the box and I opened it to reveal a bracelet. It was a simplistic style, which accented the gemstones beautifully. It was truly the most incredible (and expensive) gift I had ever received in my life.

"Nik..." I whispered as he placed the bracelet around my wrist, "This is absolutely gorgeous!"

"Only the best for you, love." He smirked and I grinned up at him before planting a kiss on his lips.

"I love you." I murmured for the first time against his lips and he grew still. When I pulled away, there was an unreadable expression on his face, as if he were currently at war with himself. I immediately wanted to take the words back. Had I said them too soon in our relationship? Did he not love me back?

"I love you too, Emilia." He replied softly and I instantly relaxed and pulled him in for another kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him flush against me. Pulling away for a moment, I looked up at him with nervous excitement.

"I want to have sex." I admitted, the words coming out as a whisper and Nik's hands tightened on my waist, "I'm ready, Nik."

"We don't have to..." He said, taking a hesitant step backwards.

Before he could get too far away, I grabbed his wrist and pulled him back to me. His gaze darkened as he looked down at me and it sent shivers up my spine. A guilty look crossed his face before he slowly nodded.

"Just... Be gentle." I said with a nervous grin as he brought his lips back to mine.

"I don't deserve you." He whispered against the skin of my collarbone. I frowned in confusion at his words but was completely distracted from my thoughts as Niklaus claimed my body for the first time.
