'OK, I gotta get out of here!' I thought to myself, tired of hearing the endless chatter of the women. It has been half an hour now, and we were still talking about Mrs Miles and soon to be her daughter-in-law, Wendy. Auntie Ruth has even started talking about Mrs Miles nonexistent grand children! They haven't even gotten married yet!Even Wendy looks scared out of her shoes and ready to run away from there because of the topic of discussion! But she can't since she's the one they are talking to. She looks as pale as a ghost standing there! She's lucky the light her is helping her hide her expression.
"Auntie Ruth!" I called out the immediate time I saw her trying to continue the topic after sipping the water in her cup.
"Madam Éclair seems to be running late, do you know why? I mean it's her exhibition after all." I asked liked the concerned citizen I was trying to be. Trying had not to roll my eyes at their discussions.
"Oh, don't worry! It's normal for her to be late. She's normally late to all her shows." Auntie Ruth said. "What do you young lads call it again, uhmm... something late?" She asked.
"Fashionably late!" Mrs Johnson yelled out remembering the word.
"Wha!" I almost chocked, "Who comes this late to their event!? It's almost three hours now!" I almost yelled out.
"Madam Éclair off course!" Mrs Miles said almost seething in anger. "She tells people not to come late while she herself is the only that always does! Doesn't she know how old she is?! Always trying to act as if she's still young and up to date! Making all of us wait here like we don't have our own work!"
I think there's definitely an animosity between Mrs Miles and Madam Éclair.
The others also joined the blaming team, except Wendy, while she tried to keep things under control. 'OK, this is my chance!' I thought to myself excitedly.
"Auntie Ruth! It has been a pleasure meeting and speaking to you ones again after so long. I hate to leave like this bit I have a phone call that i need to pick up urgently, so please explain the situation to the rest. I don't think I'll be able to come back. " I said, as regretful as I could, despite my joy.
"Aigo," she said with her hand on her head. "Don't worry my dear, go take your call. I'll explain it to them." She said with a smile.
"Thank you!"I thanked her gratefully then hurriedly left. From the side of my eyes I could see Wendy looking at me with plea in her eyes, silently asking for help and wishing it was her that escaped.
'Sorry Wendy, every man or woman for themselves!'
...
"Ahhh! Thank goodness your finally out of there Leah!" Jason said through the hidden earpiece.
"You both left me there! Alone!" I raged over them. I had tried to talk to them while I was still there, trying to look for a form of entertainment but I got no reply.
"Ow come on! You didn't expect us to hear Mrs Ruth go on and on, did you?!" Kayla snickered.
"Hump! So what were you guys doing while I was out?" I asked standing in front of an art.
"I've checked the security cameras and the Web, Mrs Ruth was right. Madam Éclair always like to come three hours late. She calls it being 'fashionable late'." Jason said.
"Would you like the morning special along with the rest?" I heard a voice from their side.
"What? Jason, kayla! Are you both eating lunch! Without meeeee!" I cried out.
"Yeah!" Kayla replied. "You don't expect us to stay in hunger, right?" She asked mockingly. "There are lots of eye catching things there after all, so you won't mind us." She said sarcastically.
"Is this revenge?" I asked her.
"No, I'm just stating the truth. " she replied buy I know that it's pay back.
"Revenge? What is she talking about, Kayla?" Jason asked, confused.
"Nothing, don't mind her." Kayla replied. I can tell she's smiling mischievously over there.
Kayla came to my house early in the morning to check up on everything and escort me to the gallery. When she saw that I hadn't taken anything since she arrived she asked me why and I answered her with,
"Why eat now when I can eat after the mission. " sitting beside her on the cushions.
"You don't know when we will be down. You better put somethinginside your stomach." She warned me but I didn't heed to it. I mean it's just a simple mission of getting the password from the painting, an hour at most and we'll be done. That is if there's any unexpected things. How was I supposed to know she comes three hour late to her exhibition!
Now I regret it! I should have eaten something! Even if it was just a cookie! I'm starving right now, uwah!
...
"Leah, get ready. One minute remaining. " Jasin said, shaking me out of my thoughts.
"Do you think she will really come exactly three hours after?" I asked back, still frustrated and starving.
The chatter surrounding us suddenly increased. "Wow! She's really punctual." I said ones I saw Madam Éclair walking in dressed all flashily in red. 'She really likes being the centre of attention.' I thought to myself seeing her outfit that's almost blinding. She's also wearing way too much jewellery that I wonder how she's standing still. The worse is the heals, how many inches high to do want to go! You look like a single light push can make you fall!
'Ai ai ai, I can see the effort and time she put into that.' I shook my head.
"Wait until she's nit surrounding by many people then .ake your move." Kayla informed.
"OK, copy. I don't even want to throw myself into that." I told them, seeing the number of people surrounding her.
