The walk was silent, maybe even a bit awkward...
I have so little but so much to say to him. I don't even know where to start or what to even say, as we walk more cadets are parting with their third year- or I guess I should say graduates. All sneaking a glance at the pair that rose from the dead.
Still Xaden stays silent as he scans everyone we come close to, scanning the area for any threats, it's been a things since last..winter? It just comes natural to him at this point.
On the way edge of the flight field stands Segyl and Rhys twined together waiting for us, above third years are leaving, I hear small cries and good lucks from the new second and third years before they leave.
I notice we're further out, all dragons purposely not coming even close to near where they are... Something I know is purposeful.
I feel that pit once more.
" We don't have much time." Xaden says quickly turning to face me fully.
" Melgren or any of those assholes can't read conversations in our head." He continues making my eyes widen a bit.
" Your aware you'll be watched?" He asks.
I nod.
" Anything private of important we'll talk about in person like this ok? Write boring shit in your missives, They'll be reading them."
" I had a feeling they would."
He pulls me closer to him as a couple cadets seem to be looking at us, he ducks his head ever so slightly looking intently as me, it makes my stomach knot. " I don't want you to include yourself in anything us marked ones are doing, nothing. Do you understand that?"
" But I want-"
" You can't." Xaden says sharply. " We're protected. More then 3 remember Melgren can't see, you have nothing. If they even say a word, a look, anything you tell them to shut up. I told them too but just in case, you don't get involved. One slip and everything and everyone dies."
I squint my eyes, " So You want me just to stand back and do nothing?"
" No, I want you to keep them alive by not involving yourself. I also want you to help the first years live, again you say nothing if they say something-"
" Shut them down."
" Take care of them but don't trust them, not until I get a good look and time spent with them. They all know they can't kill or hurt you but that doesn't mean they'll save you or help. Hell, some might rat you out just to see your suffer a little."
