The sounds of crickets and night birds are looming over the vast darkness. They're the only creatures that keep the night less quiet. No vehicles are passing by, and some people are only passing quietly and it's been a several minutes has passed since I saw the couple came out from the grocery store.
He is just fidgeting his fingers on his lap and I know there's something going on in his brain. He seems like he has something to say to me but he keeps stopping his self. And I'm bothered.
"Hoy." I elbow his arm.
"May problema ba?" I ask again.
He shakes his head. But he seems unrelaxed.
"You're still. I know you're not okay. May kinalaman ba talaga ako kung bakit mo ako pinapunta dito?"
He sighs. "May iniisip lang ako."
There he said it.
He lifts his brows when he turns to look at me.
"I like you, Narra."
My eyes are wide as owl's eyes. And my jaw drops.
"Anong sabi mo?
In any circumstances, I just remain still as statue.
His eyes are now darting on mine. His eyes are like the color of the night, dark yet illusive. His hair is also as dark as the color of his eyes, so cryptic that I want to touch it.
"You heard it." he whispers.
"I did not." I whispers back. "Sabihin mo ulit sa akin." I say again, through whispers.
He blows a huge sigh. I'll be my own laughingstock." he replies as he brushes his hair while facing the playground.
I twitch my lip.
"Bakit mo naman pagtatawanan ang sarili mo? You just said it first, why don't you say it once again so that I could give my answer to you." I reply.
