My nightmare was just getting started, but thanks to HoSung loosening my bindings a little I was fairly comfortable, all things considered. The cut on my arm hurt and I probably needed stitches, and my lip hurt from being busted open twice. Otherwise, I was holding up okay.
MiKyung left the room and closed the door. I heard them talking but I couldn't make out the words. Then I heard the front door close and the TV turn on. She had left HoSung alone again. Based on the amount of time she had been "home", I guessed we were 10-15 minutes away from the office and she had taken an hour for lunch, probably telling InHae she had an appointment or errand. She was smart, bold, and maybe a little fearless—and psycho-- which made her even more dangerous. I had to be smarter.
I had no way to know what she had planned, but I wasn't looking forward to it. Not knowing was the worst part of the situation so far. I had to expect anything at any time. I also had to work on making friends with HoSung. He was the wild card. He could either help me or dig the hole deeper.
It was a safe assumption that he didn't know about her obsession with Minhyuk. If I had any hope to get free, it would probably involve using that information to drive a wedge between them. I had to make him trust me while making him doubt her, without going too fast. He would resist if I came on too strong.
I laid back on the bed and tried to come up with a plan. Instead, I started thinking about Jinki. And Minhyuk. And Changkyun. And my family. I let the fear and helplessness take over. I had been strong so far, but I didn't feel strong now. I felt hopeless. What were the chances they would find me? MiKyung wasn't stupid enough to take me to her home, or to her accomplice's, and until they watched the kitty cams, they would not know who it was. And even then, how would they find me?
It was a moment of weakness, but pushed it out of my mind and my resolve returned. I expected they would watch the footage today. Or at least I hoped they would. She would be at work. They would be able to capture her. It was all speculation in my mind, but it was what I had to cling to.
I went back to forming my plan, along with a backup or three. It would probably be best to make my move while MiKyung was out so that I was only dealing with HoSung, but he was a very big guy and would be able to take me out easily. So I was back to gaining his trust so I could betray it.
I must have dozed off because the next thing I knew, MiKyung was standing over me and shaking me to wake me up. She had brought food and water for her captive. This time it was kimbap. Everything they were feeding me was from convenience stores or street food vendors. Was that by design because they were easy to manage, or because that was all that was close?
I accepted the food because I needed to eat to keep my strength up. I was surprised she was not letting me starve. That must mean she has plans for me. She didn't plan to kill me right away, at least.
After eating, I was allowed a bathroom break again but this time MiKyung stood close by with her knife. I rinsed my face off again and rinsed out my mouth, rubbing my finger over my teeth. I wanted to brush my teeth and shower, but I was thankful to be able to have bathroom breaks at all. I wasn't going to press my luck.
She told me about the situation at the office. The investigation had begun. It was only a matter of time before they figured it out and somehow found me. I kept clinging to that hope.
"You should have seen the police in the building today. They were looking at everything, questioning everyone... but they are stupid. They don't know anything. And the guys... they were going crazy. Minhyuk deserves that." She was cocky and that was good for me. That means she could get careless.
I felt a small wave of relief wash over me. If the police were there then they would have started looking for me. MiKyung had been very good about keeping her face hidden when we were leaving the building. She had on a black hoodie and mask and there was nothing about her clothing that stood out.
