As the day's mission came to an end, Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick found himself returning to his quarters, tired but content. It had been a long day of training and patrols, and all he wanted was to unwind. But tonight was different. Tonight, he had plans with his best friend and fellow soldier, Y/N.
Y/N had been Gaz's rock throughout their time in the military. They had been through everything together, from intense firefights to quiet moments of camaraderie. But despite their closeness, Gaz had always kept his feelings for Y/N hidden, afraid of ruining their friendship.
As Gaz entered his quarters, he found Y/N already waiting for him, a DVD in hand and a bag of popcorn on the table. She smiled up at him, her eyes bright with anticipation.
"Hey, Gaz. Ready for movie night?" she asked, patting the spot next to her on the couch.
"Absolutely," Gaz replied, returning her smile. He settled in beside her, feeling a warmth spread through him at her presence.
They started the movie, a lighthearted comedy that Y/N had picked out. Gaz found himself laughing along with her, enjoying the simple pleasure of her company. As the movie progressed, Y/N leaned against him, her head resting on his shoulder.
Gaz's heart skipped a beat at the intimate gesture. He had always cherished these moments with Y/N, but tonight felt different. Tonight, with her so close, he couldn't ignore the feelings stirring inside him.
As the movie reached its climax, Gaz stole glances at Y/N, her peaceful expression illuminated by the soft glow of the screen. She looked so beautiful, so serene, and Gaz couldn't help but feel a surge of affection for her.
But as the movie came to an end, Gaz realized that Y/N had fallen asleep, her breathing steady against his shoulder. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But then he remembered the promise he had made to himself earlier that day. Tonight was the night he would tell Y/N how he felt.
Carefully, Gaz shifted, adjusting his position so that Y/N's head rested more comfortably against him. He brushed a stray lock of hair from her face, his heart swelling with love.
"I love you, Y/N," he whispered softly, his words meant only for her ears. "I've loved you for so long, and I can't keep it a secret any longer."
Y/N stirred slightly in her sleep, a small smile tugging at her lips. Gaz couldn't help but smile back, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. He had finally said the words he had been longing to say, and even if Y/N didn't hear them now, he knew she would someday.
As the night stretched on, Gaz held Y/N close, savoring the warmth of her presence. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew that whatever happened, they would face it together. And for Gaz, that was enough.
