Ghost stood silently in the dimly lit training room, his face obscured by the familiar, skull-patterned mask that had become his signature. The other soldiers moved around him, grunting and sweating through their exercises, but his attention was not on them. It was on the new recruits, and more specifically, on Y/N.

He watched her, his gaze piercing through the mask's darkened eye sockets. Y/N was a natural, moving with a grace and precision that belied her inexperience. She was different from the others. Ghost saw it in the way she threw herself into every drill, the determination in her eyes, the way her nose crunched adorably when she was deep in concentration. And that smile—it could light up the darkest room and make even Ghost's well-guarded heart beat just a bit faster.

Despite his growing interest, Ghost kept his distance. He was hard on all the recruits, but especially on Y/N. He pushed her to her limits, demanding perfection in every task. Yet, whenever she met his eyes, her gaze unwavering and curious, he felt a strange pull. He found himself giving in, offering her a rare reprieve from the grueling routines, ending her training sessions earlier than the others. It was a weakness, he knew, but he couldn't help himself.

At night, when sleep eluded him, Ghost's thoughts would drift to Y/N. He would recall the smallest details—how she would tilt her head slightly when she was listening intently, the sound of her laughter, the spark of determination that never seemed to fade from her eyes. Each memory was a bittersweet ache in his chest, a reminder of feelings he could never act on.

Ghost had built his life around walls and shadows, keeping everyone at arm's length. It was safer that way. Emotions were a liability, a crack in the armor that could be exploited. But Y/N was different. She was a light in his darkness, a reminder of what he had lost and what he could never have.

One evening, after a particularly grueling day of training, Ghost found himself alone in the training room. The recruits had long since retired to their quarters, but he remained, the silence pressing in around him. He pulled off his mask, the cool air brushing against his skin, and closed his eyes. Y/N's image danced behind his eyelids, her smile radiant and warm.

It hurt, knowing he could never express these feelings. To let her in would be to expose his vulnerabilities, to risk everything he had worked so hard to protect. Yet, the pain of keeping her at a distance was almost unbearable.

Ghost took a deep breath, steeling himself. He couldn't afford to be distracted, couldn't afford to let his guard down. Y/N deserved someone who could give her the world, someone who wasn't haunted by ghosts of the past. And so, he would continue to watch her from afar, memorize every detail, and cherish the moments they shared in silence. It was better this way, he told himself, even as his heart ached with the truth.

As the nights grew longer and his feelings for Y/N deeper, Ghost knew that some battles were fought not on the battlefield, but within the heart. And this was a battle he wasn't sure he could win.

The training session was in full swing, the sound of grunts and the clash of equipment filling the air. Ghost prowled the perimeter, his eyes sharp beneath his mask, taking in the scene with practiced precision. His gaze settled, as it often did, on Y/N. She was working hard, her face scrunched up in that endearing way that always made his heart skip a beat. But today, something was different.

One of the male recruits, a tall, muscular guy named Lucas, was hovering near Y/N. Ghost watched as Lucas made her laugh with inside jokes, the kind that come from shared moments and private conversations. Ghost felt a sharp pang of jealousy twist in his chest, an emotion he wasn't accustomed to and didn't welcome. He gritted his teeth, forcing himself to stay focused on the task at hand.
