Roach crouched behind the low wall, scanning the bustling streets through his scope. His target was slippery—always one step ahead, blending into the crowd with ease. The mission was simple: track, follow, report. In and out, no complications. Yet here he was, trailing a man through a quaint European café district, of all places, while the scent of fresh pastries filled the air. It was a far cry from the war zones he was used to. The café, with its warm lights and soft hum of conversation, felt like another world.
As he watched from a distance, his target paused, turning to glance over his shoulder, scanning for anyone tailing him. Roach knew better than to flinch, but something unexpected happened. Just as the target's gaze seemed to drift toward his position, a figure collided into him. Not hard, just enough to knock him slightly off balance. Instinctively, Roach's reflexes kicked in, his hand darting out to steady whoever had bumped into him.
And that's when he saw her.
Y/N stumbled into him, muttering a quick apology, but her words faded as their eyes met. She had a soft warmth in her expression, the kind that made you forget where you were, even just for a moment. Her long, flowy dress swirled around her, the fabric light against her tanned skin, and Roach couldn't help but notice how it contrasted so beautifully. But it was her eyes—deep, piercing green—that held him captive. In that moment, the mission, the target, everything else in his life seemed to fade into the background.
He remembered catching her before she could completely lose her balance, his hands firm but gentle on her arms. They stood like that for what felt like eternity but was probably only a few seconds, the world around them moving at a different speed.
Roach would often tell the story to anyone who'd listen—how they met by chance during a mission, how the universe seemed to pull them together just as his target was slipping away. "The moment our eyes met," he would say, his voice filled with warmth, "I knew I was in deep. Like, really deep. Couldn't focus on the op after that."
Of course, Y/N always had something to say about his version of the story. She'd laugh, shake her head, and playfully hit his shoulder. "Stop exaggerating," she'd tease, her eyes glinting with amusement. "You didn't fall that hard for me the second you saw me."
But he knew the truth. He remembered everything so clearly—the way her dress moved like a breeze in the summer air, the way her skin seemed to glow under the golden sunlight, and how those green eyes of hers left him utterly captivated. He didn't even have a favorite color until that day.
"I'm telling you, it was love at first sight," he'd insist with a smirk, watching as she rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. "And I didn't even care that I lost the target. Best mission I ever blew."
In quiet moments, away from the chaos of their lives, Roach would think back to that day. It wasn't just the unexpected interruption during his mission that stayed with him; it was how she became his world so effortlessly. Before Y/N, everything in his life was about survival—about completing objectives, about living in the shadows. She was nothing like the life he knew. She was warmth and light, a breath of fresh air in a world that had long gone cold.
He might have been a soldier, a man built for war, but when it came to Y/N, Roach was defenseless. She was everything he hadn't realized he needed, and he loved every moment they shared—whether it was in quiet cafes or just lounging together in the rare moments of peace they found.
Whenever he told the story of their first meeting, there was always that glint in his eye, that soft smile he couldn't quite hide. It was the moment his world changed forever, and no matter how much Y/N teased him about it, Roach knew he'd never stop telling the story. Because to him, it wasn't just a chance encounter—it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
And every time he looked into her eyes, he was reminded of it all over again.
