Y/N wasn't one to get jealous. She knew what she had in König. But tonight, watching a tall, stunning woman with perfect posture and a confident smile lean in close to him, laughing at something he'd said... It stirred something uncomfortable inside her. She wasn't the kind of woman who doubted herself. Or at least, she hadn't been before König entered her life. And König never once gave her a reason to feel insecure; he adored her, showed it in countless ways, and practically worshipped the ground she walked on. But some days, that little voice still whispered, He's out of your league.
Soap, standing next to her, didn't miss the flicker of discomfort on her face. Following her gaze, he spotted König and the statuesque woman still chatting. Soap chuckled under his breath and nudged Y/N with his elbow.
"Come on, lass, don't tell me you're gettin' jealous," he teased.
She forced a tight smile. "I'm not jealous," she muttered, crossing her arms.
Soap gave her a knowing look. "Aye, right. You're scowling so hard, you'll give yourself a headache."
Y/N let out a small sigh, trying to shake the feeling off. She knew it was ridiculous; König loved her, full stop. But she couldn't help but feel... less than. Maybe it was the quiet part of her that still wondered what a man like him could see in her, the kind of man who made people wary even with his mask off, who barely acknowledged the attention he got from others because he only had eyes for her.
But tonight, seeing him receiving attention from someone like her... it rattled her confidence.
Soap softened. "Y/N, really, don't worry. Big man's smitten. Even if he's chattin' with some tall drink of water, it's you he's leavin' with at the end of the day. You know that, right?"
She nodded, swallowing her uncertainty, but her mood had already taken a nosedive. She was polite as the night went on, laughing and smiling where she needed to, but there was a dull ache in her chest. By the end of the evening, she'd had enough. She slipped out, taking the familiar walk back to their house alone. The house felt quieter, colder, without him.
It wasn't long before she heard the door open, and König's heavy steps filled the hallway. She didn't turn from her place on the couch as he approached, but she heard his footsteps slow when he saw her there, curled up and silent.
"Liebling?" he asked softly, settling beside her.
Y/N looked away, her voice coming out a little quieter than usual. "Had a good time tonight?"
König's brows knitted, hearing the hint of strain in her tone. "Ja, but I missed you. You left without me."
"I needed air," she said, trying to keep her voice even. She wasn't even sure why she felt so prickly; it just sat in her chest, heavy and unshakable.
König watched her with soft eyes, his mask already off, revealing the worry etched on his face. "Did I... do something wrong?"
Y/N finally met his eyes, and for a second, all the words she'd bottled up burst out before she could stop them.
"It's just—sometimes, I don't get it, König. Why you're with me. And then tonight, seeing you talking with that woman... I just... It made me wonder."
König blinked, surprised, and then a slow, gentle smile curved his lips. He reached out, cupping her face tenderly, his rough hands warm against her cheeks. "Liebling... you have no idea, do you?"
She looked away, still embarrassed, but he didn't let her retreat. He gently turned her face back to him, pressing his forehead to hers. His voice was deep, soft, and full of certainty.
"You're the only one I see," he murmured. "It doesn't matter if there are a hundred beautiful women around. They're invisible to me. You're my home, Y/N."
The quiet intensity in his words made her heart skip, and she felt the weight of her insecurity slowly lift. König looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world, and in that moment, she believed it.
He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, lingering there, his breath warm against her skin. "You're everything to me. Beautiful, strong, and mine. No one could ever change that."
A soft smile crept onto her face as she let his words sink in. The doubts faded, leaving only the warmth of his love, so steady and unwavering. She leaned into his touch, finally feeling at peace.
"Alright," she whispered. "But don't blame me if I get jealous once in a while."
He chuckled, a rare sound, and pulled her close, wrapping her in his arms. "I'll always remind you, meine Liebe. Every day, if you need me to."
And in his embrace, Y/N felt, more than ever, that she was exactly where she belonged.
