A shiver ran through my body as I realized Minji's eyes were scrutinizing me.

I crossed my arms over my chest as if it were a kind of shield to protect myself against her. I was terrified.

I tried to stand tall, act confidently, but the way she was looking at me, my resolve was slowly breaking.

"W-What is it...?" I stammered. "What do you want?" I asked. Her hand was raised toward me. I flinched and stepped back.

Minji's expressions were hurt.

Yes, you heard that right...

I expected her to be unhinged, but instead, she seemed calm, which was quite rare in Minji's case. "How are you?" she asked.

Wait! Have I entered another dimension?

Who was this woman?

"I'm fine," I said.

"Do you work here?" she pressed.

"You didn't answer my question, Minji. What do you want?" I was going to get straight to the point. No bullshit!

I thought I saw her jaw tighten, but I couldn't be sure due to the darkness.

If she decided to drug and kidnap me again, it wouldn't be very difficult, but so far, she wasn't making a move. I had pepper spray in my bag just in case. I noticed Felix watching us from the kitchen window. He wasn't spying but making sure we were okay.

He was probably categorizing this as another common breakup between couples. Ex-girlfriend shows up at the girl's workplace, convincing her to take her back, blah, blah, blah. If only it were that simple.

I shifted from one foot to the other. "Why are you here?"

"This is a coincidence. I didn't know you worked here. I stopped by for a quick meal and saw you." As much as I wanted to think she was lying, her voice spoke levels of sincerity and her expressions were peaceful, and again, Kim Minji was a natural actress.

"Look, I really appreciate what you did for my mother, paying off my father's debt and getting me out of the law, but I think I paid you back by living in your house for a while, even though that wasn't part of the deal you made with my mother. I never asked for your help," I continued. "I don't want to have anything to do with you, Minji."

"Your hair has gotten longer," she smiled. "I always liked your natural color. Black suits you beautifully."

"Thanks," I said.

"Come home with me," she said.

It was funny how she thought her house was still my home. "This is my home," I said. "I have a job. I'm not going anywhere."

Minji chuckled and nodded, as if she knew that would be my response. She dug her hands into her pants pockets, looking gaunt.

It was quite cold outside; I hugged myself, trying not to freeze and thinking of a good excuse to end this conversation. As if Minji read my mind, she took off her jacket and placed it over my shoulders. I felt warm and cozy.

Wait, what the hell did I just say? Why was Minji acting like this?

"I should go," I said.

She nodded again. Her brown eyes didn't betray any emotion, and that's what scared me most of the time. "Take care."

Surprised, I watched as she walked to her car. She opened the door and slid into the driver's seat. I stayed there until I was sure the car had disappeared from the street.
