"Why the hell am I here?" I shivered when I heard that voice.I looked toward the voice and was speechless to find Sungho sitting in a wooden chair, his arms and legs tied to it.
He gave me a look mixed with anger and fear.
"Now that we are all here, I think it's better if you start talking before I lose my mind because I take lies and deceit very personally, especially when it involves my wife," Minji's attention turned to me. "Let's start with you, Hanni. Why did you lie to me?"
I knew my life was in danger at this point. Minji could attack me at any moment. It was my damn fault for thinking nothing would happen. Even the smallest things bothered her.
"I asked you a question, Hanni. I expect an answer."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to lie to you," I sobbed. "I was scared of how you would react if I told you the truth. But I swear, I never gave him any wrong ideas. I would never do that. You must trust me."
"How many times do you expect me to forgive you for the same mistakes?" Minji said coldly. "Once, twice, a dozen times? I don't even remember how many times I've punished you before, and yet, you never learn!"
I shook my head. "I love you, I really do, and that's why I didn't want you to misunderstand things."
Minji down to my level, grabbed my hair by the roots, and pulled. I cried for her to let go, but her grip only tightened, making the pain unbearable. "Listen to me, you worthless little thing. The expensive clothes you wear are because of my hard work. These jewels around your neck, that's my money too. And this body of yours, it's something I've also legally acquired. Your mother practically sold you to me in exchange for the life she's living, and believe me, if I hadn't married your sorry ass, you'd be in a slum trying to pay off my debts by sucking off men like him," she pointed at Sungho.
I thought my ears were bleeding from hearing all this. Minji had so much venom for me inside her.
I thought she really loved me.
"Do you know why I married you? Because I liked you. Because I like your naive nature. Instead of thanking me, you use my money and lie to my face. And I'm supposed to forgive that?" Minji released my hair forcefully. "I thought you were different, but I guess I was wrong. You don't deserve my love."
"I DON'T UNDERSTAND!" I screamed at her. "WHAT DID I DO WRONG?"
Minji's palm hit my face so hard it made me stagger toward the wall. My cheek burned, and tears soaked my face. "Never raise your voice at me again," she said with the kind of authority that warned there was no room for argument. "And to answer your question, you were supposed to act like a good wife, keep me happy, and stay away from other people. But you never learn, and I'm losing my patience with you."
I wondered what that meant.
I was already being humiliated in front of Sungho, who was still witnessing this with horror.
He would surely tell the world about this. Newspaper headlines would read: "Kim Minji, owner of Kim Industries. A remarkably intelligent businesswoman, turns out to be a woman-beater."
"Hey!" Sungho called from the other end. "You don't have to do this to her. It was my fault."
"Stay out of this. I'm talking to my wife," Minji warned.
"Well, you can argue all you want, but let me go." Minji walked toward him like a lightning bolt and punched him in the face. Despite that, Sungho laughed.
It was a horrible scene.
His teeth were stained with his own blood as he laughed hysterically. "Mrs. Kim, I always watched your interviews on TV and read some articles about you, and I must say you came across as someone smart and down-to-earth. But right now, all I see is a psychotic bitch whose possessiveness borders on that of a lunatic," Sungho laughed again. "Well, you're good at deceiving people with your miserable appearance."
