I woke up the next morning feeling sore but strangely satisfied.Minji was nowhere in sight, so I assumed she was getting ready. She was a workaholic; maybe she had things to do.
I stared at the beautifully designed ceiling, thinking about the strange luck that had brought me a billionaire wife. I smiled. I wasn't a gold digger, but after living a hard life, it was nice to think that things were finally falling into place.
Before I could get out of bed, there was a knock on the door. I sat up and covered my body with the sheet. "Who is it?"
Minji peeked in. "My love, it's me. Good morning," she laughed as she entered the room, pushing a cart full of food. "I brought breakfast in bed for my beautiful new wife."
Wife.
The word made my heart flutter. She sat on the edge of the bed and placed a wooden tray on a pillow. It smelled of fresh toast, sausages, fruit, and freshly baked croissants. She grabbed a piece of toast and brought it to my lips.
I took a bite. "I... I haven't brushed my teeth yet," I said.
Minji smiled. "It's okay."
She looked beautiful in pants and a simple gray t-shirt. The sunlight streaming through the window made her fair skin glow. I touched her cheek, and she kissed my palm immediately.
"I have a surprise for you."
I giggled. "I don't like how much you spend on me."
"I can afford it. Besides, everything for you is worth it, my little one. Now, lift the plate."
I did as she said, and to my surprise, there was a pink envelope on the tray. My fingers moved over it as memories of my time here came back to me in flashes. These envelopes reminded me of how tough life was with all those rules. I swallowed hard. "Min, we said no more rules."
"Open the envelope, Han," she said calmly, her expressions giving nothing away.
I opened the envelope slowly, expecting to see another card with benefits, but it was a hotel reservation in Cape Town, South Africa. "And this is...?"
"Our honeymoon," she said.
I wrapped my arms around her neck, and once again, tears welled up in my eyes. "Thank you so much, Minji. This means so much to me. Not just the honeymoon trip, but the fact that you're trying to change so much for me."
"Of course. You're my wife now; you deserve all this and more," Minji smiled.
"But what about your work?" I asked. If this had been a year ago, she probably would have slapped me in the face for questioning her.
"I actually have some business in Cape Town, but it would be very rude to leave my new wife alone in this house, so I thought: why not kill two birds with one stone? That way I can do my work and we can spend time together. I'm sure you'll love the place. But, if you have another place in mind, we could schedule that too."
I closed my eyes and shook my head. "Tell me this isn't a beautiful dream."
Minji laughed. "Come on, eat your breakfast and get ready."
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"It's a beautiful day, I thought we could relax on the beach," she gave me a small kiss on the lips.
"I'd love that," I said.
