H A N N I

If I wasn't sure how desperate my wife could be, I knew now.

I noticed the car parked outside the pizzeria.

Minji could have been waiting here for over an hour, knowing her.

I lifted Hyein into my arms as Daehan passed by us towards the revolving doors of the restaurant, looking excited to see Minji.

He seemed to have forgotten how scared he used to be of his mother, and that really made me angry.

"Table for three, miss?" the waiter asked me.

"No, we'll be meeting someone else. Table for four, please," I said, then found Minji already seated. I turned to the waiter. "That's fine, my..." I swallowed.

The word "wife" seemed to have gotten stuck in my throat.

"My wife is already here."

My heart started beating faster as I made my way to the table where Minji was already seated.

She was wearing a blue blazer over a gray shirt. Her dark hair was tousled, but still made her look elegant. Her brown eyes were a perfect contrast, and what infuriated me the most was how stunning she still looked.

This wasn't fair.

Minji had done many horrible things over the years; she should have been bald, with wrinkles all over her face, and maybe missing some teeth, and instead, she looked like she had just finished a session with Vogue.

"Hanni," she greeted me.

She even stood up as I approached her table.

Oh, what a lady, Kim Minji.

Note the sarcasm.

I gave her a nonchalant smile, one that didn't reveal how anxious I was.

I hadn't been able to sleep the night before, thinking about this occasion until I was forced to turn on the light and read a boring book to distract myself from thinking about her, and finally, I had a maximum of two hours of sleep until the alarm rang in my ears and it was time to wake Daehan up for school.

"You look beautiful," Minji complimented me, and she seemed genuine, and I hated that she seemed that way.

I dressed casually today with a simple blouse, a scarf, and boots.

Her attention turned to Hyein. "Hey, princess, how are you?"

"Mom..." she went straight into her arms.

She kissed her on the forehead as Daehan ran forward and hugged Minji fiercely.

I couldn't help but notice how much Daehan looked exactly like Minji. From the hair to the eyes.

It was so obvious.

"Daehan, buddy... how's school going?"

Daehan looked at Minji. "I have an exhibition at school on Monday; I did a project about volcanoes. Mommy helped me with it. Will you come to the exhibition, Mom?"

"Daehan!" I warned him.

"All the parents are going," he insisted. "And Jiho will know that Mom is here."

"Who's Jiho?" Minji asked.

I sighed.

I hoped not to have a migraine when I got back home today.

"Dae, sweetheart, Mom will come to your exhibition if she's not busy, but I'm sure Mom has something..." -

"Oh, actually, I'm free on Monday," Minji interrupted me.
