This seemed more like a double date than a girls' lunch.

I was so mad at Chaewon for dragging me into this.

Sungho was pushed right next to me, and so far, we had made small talk. I had tried to avoid talking about myself and to get more information about him. Sungho was about my age, working as a manager at a nearby store. He was saying that he and Jaehyun were such good friends and babbling about their high school stories.

The waitress from before approached our table and took our orders. We decided on a mixed seafood pizza, fish sticks, and salad. She brought us our drinks while we waited for the food.

"So, what do you do for a living, Hanni?" Sungho asked. He had slid next to me while Jaehyun kept Chaewon occupied. She was laughing a lot, showing that the two of them were hitting it off.

Before I could answer his question, Chaewon said, "Sungho, a woman doesn't need to earn a living if her wife owns shopping malls and hotel chains. Unless, of course, she thinks going back to waitressing is better," she laughed at her own joke.

Sungho's eyebrows arched as he took a sip of his drink. "Really? Your wife is filthy rich?" I shrugged.

"I don't like to brag."

"What's your name again?"

"Pha... Kim. It's Hanni Kim-Pham," I said.

"Your wife is Kim Minji?"

Her name sent a jolt of fear through my body. "Yes."

Sungho seemed surprised. He chuckled. "Well, at first glance, I thought you were rich, but to think you're the owner of Kim Legacy Hotel, Kim Resort & Spa, and Royal Plaza shopping malls. Wow."

"Technically, I'm only the owner by marriage."

He laughed. "You seem more down-to-earth than most rich wives."

"Thank you," I said awkwardly.

Sungho smiled. "I must say, you're an interesting person. And I'm not saying that to flatter you."

My cheeks burned, not because I was attracted to him, but because I wasn't used to anyone flirting with me so openly.

Suddenly, he pushed a strand of hair behind my ear. Sungho leaned in towards me. "I've heard that rich people like to take little business trips and mostly can't give much time to their spouses. Does that happen to you too?"

I scrutinized his face to see if I could detect any kind of hidden joke in his question, but there was none. I was saved from answering that question because the waitress arrived with our food.

True to Chaewon's word, the food was delicious. I made a mental note to bring Minji here another time. Before the pizza slices could disappear, I grabbed another portion and took a bite.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Sungho's gaze fixed on me, making me uncomfortable. Sungho's eyes moved to my ring finger. "So, how did you two meet?"

This was my cue to stare at him, trying to find an excuse to avoid explaining.

What was I supposed to tell him anyway?

That my wife had kidnapped me to settle my mother's debts?

Or the fact that I had grown to love her after she persuaded me for months?

"It was... it was love at first sight. I used to be a waitress, and Minji asked me out," I said as if I had rehearsed those lines before. Before he could throw more questions, I stood up. "Excuse me. I'll be back in a minute," I headed straight to the ladies' room.
