THIRD PERSON POVHyunjin returned to his car feeling a bit drained from the conversation. Maybe coming here had been a mistake.
Jake had been keeping a close eye on Minji ever since she threatened to kill him, and he was surprised to see how Minji was following Hanni around like a loyal puppy. Jake was still intent on making Minji's life miserable, and it was hard to believe she was in love, so he had asked Hyunjin to do the job, a job that he now realized would not be successful. Hyunjin was about to open the driver's side door of the car when a woman emerged from the shadows.
A woman he recognized.
"What did you tell her?" Minji asked. She was dressed in a black t-shirt and matching pants. Her hair was longer than Hyunjin remembered. Her brown eyes scrutinized Hyunjin carefully, and Hyunjin knew he needed to navigate this situation cautiously, but he also saw no way to fake it.
"I told her the truth about you," Hyunjin said.
"What truth?" she demanded.
Hyunjin could see her jaw tighten. "That you're lying to trap that girl again."
Minji laughed. Something about the way she was acting didn't sit well with Hyunjin. "I told you to stay out of my business," Minji smiled.
Anyone would call her charming if they didn't know what a monster she really was. If they knew, they would see she was downright creepy.
"Wasn't Yunjin's injury good enough to teach you a damn lesson?"
"If you try to harm that girl, Minji, Jake will inform the police. I hope you understand that he is no longer your friend," Hyunjin reminded her.
He saw a certain sadness cross Minji's eyes, but she nodded. "Of course."
Minji laughed again.
"What's so funny?"
"Some things never change," Minji said. "Jake has always been like that, you know, always screwing others over, trying to be the good guy." She sighed, burying her hands in her pockets. "Maybe he forgot that he owes me some favors for things I've done for him in the past. Besides, now that we're no longer friends, it's obvious we don't have to hold back."
Hyunjin was confused. He wasn't sure what that meant. "What do you mean?"
"I have a message for him. One last warning. I want you to relay it to Jake for me."
Hyunjin shook his head and started to open the car door. This woman was crazy, and all Hyunjin wanted to do was leave immediately. But before Hyunjin had time to think, Minji landed a punch on Hyunjin's face.
Despite Hyunjin being a strong man with muscles, it was a piece of cake for Minji to face him like she had done before. It was the punch that surprised Hyunjin for a second before he realized this was exactly what Jake had warned him about and Hyunjin had chosen to ignore. His head buzzed and he could see his own blood on his fingers. Before he had time to collect his thoughts, Hyunjin felt a rope around his neck tighten. Hyunjin gagged; he couldn't breathe and knew he was going to die. He kicked and flailed to save himself. But the rope loosened around his neck a few seconds later, and Hyunjin thought Minji had changed her mind.
Minji said, "I changed my mind. I think this is good enough as a final warning for my old friend; that's the least I can do." She smiled. "So here's the story for the police, dear Hyunjin. Are you with me?"
Hyunjin coughed and nodded. He just wanted to get away from the maniac. Minji knelt to his level. Hyunjin wondered how this parking lot was still empty, and he realized that tonight a popular band was playing at the club. No one wanted to stay in the parking lot when that happened. Besides, even if someone entered the parking lot, it was very unlikely that anyone would notice them on the ground.
"So, when the police ask what happened, you're going to tell them you came to the club and got mugged in the parking lot. The person was wearing a mask so you couldn't see their face," Minji reached into Hyunjin's pants pocket and took out his wallet. "The thief took your wallet and..." Minji took the keys. "Your car." Hyunjin coughed a little more. "Is that story very clear to you, or do I need to repeat it for you?" Hyunjin shook his head. Minji continued. "The thief was going to kill you, but Ms. Kim somehow stumbled upon the situation so the thief left." Hyunjin knew where all this was going and hated that Minji had shattered his confidence without blinking and that Jake was right. This woman was dangerous.
"Repeat it for me, Hyunjin." Hyunjin repeated it, a single wrong word and Hyunjin received a punch. "Good." Minji was pleased with herself.
Hyunjin wasn't going to follow any of the statements Minji had outlined; he actually planned to go straight to the police after this and tell them the truth about this psychopath, but his plan went out the window when Minji focused on a small photograph beneath all the cash and credit cards in his wallet.
Minji smiled at him, inspecting the picture. "She's really pretty, not as pretty as my Hanni, but nice to look at," she continued. "Wife? Girlfriend? You know what? It doesn't matter."
"Please," Hyunjin said.
"You try to act smart with the police, and this picture will be the last thing you probably have of the girl. And I don't make empty threats," Minji said. "And if you do something like that, it better not be creative, because if I do, your girl will beg for death."
"I'll do what you say. This never happened, but please," Minji nodded.
"You have my word. Do what I say and no one gets hurt." Her expression suddenly turned cold. "Tell Jake it's in his best interest to stay away from me or my girl."
Hyunjin nodded and wondered how the idiot was going to dodge the fingerprints that might appear on the car keys and steering wheel, and then realized that the bastard had also covered that; she was wearing leather gloves.
Hyunjin watched as Minji slipped into his car and drove off, leaving him on the cold ground with a red mark around his neck and slight difficulty breathing. Hyunjin didn't know what history Jake and Minji had together, but the first thing he would do in the morning would be to place a resignation on Jake's desk. He wanted nothing to do with this.
He only felt sorry for the girl who he realized had begun to trust the monster. Hyunjin wasn't sure if Minji loved the girl or not; all he knew was that the woman was crazy and would do anything and everything to gain the girl's trust.
Thirty minutes passed in agony and he finally heard footsteps approaching, and noticed a group of girls walking towards their car when they saw him.
Hyunjin raised his hand toward them. "Please, help me... I've been robbed."
